Summary of Minnesota's State Law pertaining to Wolf Management states "Hybrid and Captive Wolves. Wolf-dog hybrids may not be released. Captive wolves may not be released without a permit from the DNR." - so no wolf mix animal can be released in the State of Minnesota.
Here is the curent law on wolves and hybrids for Minnesot
"Minnesota does not currently regulate Wolf Hybrids, although they may be prohibited by local ordinances in some areas. However, if a Wolf Hybrid bears close resemblance to a "pure" wolf, the owner may be required to show proof that the animal is legally maintained and that it is a Hybrid. Pure wolves may not be taken from the wild, may only be obtained from properly licensed breeders and require a permit for their possession."
"State law prohibits the release of wolf-dog hybrids into the wild and prohibits the release of captive gray wolves, except by the permit from the Department of Natural Resources."
Check with the local authorities (town, city and county) for the legality of owning/keeping a wolf content animal. There IS a test that can be adminstered to determine the genetic makeup of an animal and can determine if wolf is within the animal.

I found the information below at one website (cited below). I also found information that legislation has been proposed to ban wolf hybrids as well as a few particular dog breeds, because of their propensity to bite.
MINNESOTA

"Effective sometime this summer, but not later than August 1, 2000, a new state law will prohibit the release of wolf-dog hybrids into the wild and prohibit the release of captive gray wolves, except by the permit from the Department of Natural Resources."
