that pretty much describes me, except that I AM a feminist, and further left than you could imagine - like Sylvia Pankhurst. Surely even the fundies would not describe the mild women you describe as a nightmare - I think that they would describe ME as a nightmare though! (single parent, tattooed, bisexual!)

I like to think I have my clever moments..
I hold several degrees so I am pretty well educated.
I have an independent streak a mile wide (My father even warned my husband not to marry me if he thought there was any possibility of ever controlling me.. My father told him he would fail so it was best to walk away before the wedding rather than be destroyed in an attempt LOL) ..
I was reasonably successful in a carreer then decided to give my children a head start by being a stay at home mom and I think I have done a pretty good job if I do say so myself...
I have a feminist streak, I believe sex does not limit options it doesn't matter if you are male or female you can do anything you put your mind to and are willing to work for...
My liberal views far outweigh my conservative views....
However I am not really much different from my grandmothers on both sides (Both are christian) and my mother (christian) I was raised with very strong minded women who were ahead of their times as role models..
My paternal Grandmother ran a lumbermill and yard during the depression she was a very small woman (under 5 feet tall 100 pounds soaking wet wearing wool) she dealt daily with big men and kept her company afloat when so many others went bankrupt...
My maternal grandmother holds the distinction of being the first female newspaper carrier in an entire state... She received the job after spending every day after school, for nearly 2month, in the newspaper office telling the Editor she could do the job and he should give her a chance.. The Editor finally gave her the job to retain what little sanity he still had left.. The next quarter she received various awards for the most new subscriptions, the fewest customer complaints, etc.... She proved her gender had nothing to do with doing the job better than anyone else...
My mother was also a woman far ahead of her time in the 1950's she is the only female in her state to have lettered in every single sport available to girls all 4 years of High School... She also tried out for football disguised as a boy, she made the team but they refused to allow her to play when she reveiled she was a female... She had been selected as 2nd string quarterback...
My upbringing with generations of strong minded, feminist women (they were feminists before there was a term for it) has far more to do with the things you have listed than my belief that there are no deities...

I have a master's degree and I do consider myself an independent minded person. My husband and I aren't fabulously wealthy but have good jobs and are what I think would be classified as successful and comparatively well off, upper middle class. I don't fit into any of the political parties. The republicans in the U.S. have alienated me with their too far right on social issues stances. I do I think have some libertarian leanings. I am a U.S. citizen but I moved to Europe a year ago and I think there are some merits to some of the social programs assisting in promoting a stable society and education which benefits all individuals that live in it. I would still say I lean a bit right on a lot of economic questions. As for feminist, the word has taken on a lot of baggage. Some people think it means a butch woman who thinks marriage is the equivalent to slavery for all women and should be banned. I'm not at all like that. I believe in every woman's (or person's for that matter) right to follow their individual path. Whether that means they want to be a stay at home mom or homemaker or never married astrophysicist or any thing in between. That is what feminism means to me.

Well, I am not above saying flattery will get you everywhere, with me at least. I thrive on validation. LOL I'm a recognized fine artist and a published journalist of 20 years experience. I think I have an I.Q. of 130 but I'm not sure what it's out of.
(snort)
Although I'm agnostic, I equate that to be just a grasshopper's elbow away from atheism but I wouldn't say I'm a fundie, nor would I say the other atheists here are necessarily fundamentalist. Poop-disturbers, yes! Extremists, not so much. LOL
I personally think men and women are neck and neck equal, although I'm not fanatic about it. I understand there's still a wage equity gap that deserves to be filled, but that will happen ... some day.
AND I believe we are our brother's keepers. (Pardon the biblical quote) But we are! If we just sit and diss the poor who live next door to us ... what the hell are we feeding starving people in other countries for, and letting our own suffer because we don't understand them?
So, I'm agnostic, a secular free thinker, an outspoken girl, yet still a nurturer at heart.
Thank you for asking!
:)

Well, the "successful" part is not so accurate, although two years ago I was earning $45,000 a year. Then I got laid off, then my husband committed suicide, then I got put on unemployment, then got put on disability.
Put the accent on "slight" with regard to feminism, and I'm a Libertarian through and through. We are neither left nor right, but above all that. LOL

i think most atheists (men included) tend to be that way. It's to do with better education, better education usually means more money.
I wouldn't say it applies to all of us though.
After the only qualification for being an atheist is lacking the belief in dieties

I've got self-confidence enough to say that I fit in that description. Only, I disagree with one part. I'm not a feminist - personally, I believe feminism brought more damage to women (ironically), but that's beyond the point now.
All I look for is equality and same standards for everyone.
EDIT: Awww, garwy, thank you so much! I'm blushing here, for real.
