I noticed tonight that my cat has blood in his urine, and is trying to pee a lot but not getting anything out. Worried, i looked online and it said it is a uti, but it worse in male cats seeing their urethra is smaller and can get blocked from this leading in a kidney failure. IM VERY WORRIED! =[. I've had my cat for 11 years. He's still happy and purring and stuff, but i know it hurts when he tries to pee because i was watching and he went in the litter box to try to go, and nothing came out except like a drop and when he got out he growled, not at me but it obviously hurts. And also he's cleaning it a lot. Seeing as it's 5 in the morning, can I wait until the morning to take him to the vet? I've been checking on him making sure he's ok but i don't want to wake up in the morning and find he's not ok....

I did check his stomach, pushed on it a little bit to make sure nothing was hurting, but i cant quite tell if he's bloated or not, he's been eating well though, and i haven't seen him drink much. He only drinks out of the running water in the sink so i will turn it off. Thanks everyone.

Check the cat's stomach for bloating. If you have a pet hospital near you, try to get in touch with them immediately.
If the cat has the need to urinate but cannot go and is in obvious pain when he tries, UTI is quite possible.
Is he drinking a lot of water? If so, remove the dish from his reach. Ingesting too much water will make him more uncomfortable. Call your vet now and leave a message. If they do not call back when they open, phone 'em again.
But if you DO have a cat clinic around you that is open 24/7, please call them now.
Take a deep breath, and best of luck to you. I hope your cat will be all right. :)

At minimum, he has a urinary tract infection. At worst, he is blocked. In either case, call your vet the minute they open (or just be there with the cat when they open) and they will work you in. Your veterinarian will know as soon as he palpates the bladder whether or not he is blocked. It is serious and they can die within 24 hours of becoming blocked, but if this just started you may be OK to wait for just another couple of hours. However, if you want to err on the side of caution, you should take him to a 24 hour emergency clinic now, or your own veterinarian if they have someone on call 24/7. Blocked cats can go from looking OK to terrible quickly.

Your cat could have bladder stones which could block the flow of or impede the flow of urine if there is a stone lodged in his urethra. This could cause a urinary tract infection as you are already aware of.
It is fairly important that you take your cat to see the vet as soon as possible. You could probably wait until the regular office opens as opposed to going to an emergency office.
However,if he gets worse, you should definitely call an after hours clinic.
If your cat does have bladder stones, surgery is usually required to get rid of them. There may be an issue with the age of your cat and anaesthesia used for surgery so, they may have another option for you.
I hope this helps.

If there is an emergency vet clinic in your area, take your cat at once. If it is a UTI, he could be gone by morning. You already know he's uncomfortable. Did you know that cats purr when they're in pain, too? Go. Now.

i suggest keeping the kitty with you, just give him water to drink for now till the vet opens. i would be at the vets door if you do not have a vet you should be able to find a emergency vet open on saturdays. sounds like a infection and probably a antibiotic would do the trick. good luck!!

My parents' cat developed stones and would have blockages like this. They had to put him on a special diet and give him a chewable pill to help prevent it from happening again.

But I agree... take him to the vet NOW!
