I am not a Church goer, but I do remember the days when churches and chapels were relatively full. Whether or not the Christ we were tought to believe in can stand todays micro scrutiny I do remember there was something quite special and fulfilling to be had from participating in worship and song with full congrigation in the echo of a church. Also over the centuries the Church was the source of comfort to many, and has served to raise many a heavy heart. Will I ever start going to church again? - Probably not, it's not the same somehow.

We are lesser for the loss of that sense of community, but notice that it is the churches today that are the main source of attacks on community. In choosing divisiveness as a strategy, the religious right has destroyed something very important and beautiful.

Of course, there is something happening during religious services - no matter what religion is being practiced.
Maybe you should be in the presence of a Tibetan monks get together - and note the difference there?

At such gatherings - you should be painfully aware that religion does manipulate the masses.
Whether or not that is a good thing - depends upon your view...

I do find it odd - how Christianity was exported to the world...
Now - what is your connection to biblical times?
You're not of the same race, culture, upbringing, etc etc.
All you have is an English Bible - somehow that makes it all OK? People in biblical times did not speak English? Did they? And so, what is your real connection with the Bible?
Or is it that - there is no connection at all - but you think you have one?

Yes you are right and no matter how many times i will say this modern day churches are out there to capitalize off of the many that they have in their church. I want someone to tell me what church today preaches the full word of God. All I hear is God has opened the door its your choice to walk in. No not at all. The Bible says we are dead in our trespasses and sins and can only be reconciled back to Father through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ can only reconcile me back to the Father and I cant in any way choose to Believe for it is God and God only that can open my heart by the working of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 14 "You did not choose me but I chose you" I dont blame you for your disbelief in churches today for it is as paul says "There will come many to decieve and preaching false doctrine only to tickle your ears." They preach what you want to hear but not what you need to hear. They make you feel good about yourself when they have never even begin to preach the truth. But i hope you wont give up trying to find a church thats pure in its doctrine. I live in Dallas and go to a small church of 90 people and we believe in Reformed Christianity (Calvinism,Protestant,) the Puritin way of christian living. I hope you do well in your search. God Bless

Yes if you neglect your relationship with Christ Jesus you are poorer. You have to work out your own salvation. You alone will stand before God...and have to give answer to the choices you make.
The Holy Spirit of God can still be found in some churches. If you walk in with a critical spirit, you will not find Him. If you walk in...entering His gates with thanksgiving in your heart and entering His courts with praise. Going to bless His name instead of hunting for a bless me club. You will find the presence of the Lord is there. Spend as much time getting your heart ready to bless the Lord as you do your physical body...God is our everpresent help in time of need. He has not moved...we have...but we have full access to the Father through the Blood of Jesus Christ. Times have changed but God has not!

No because not everyone in the world is Christian. Somthing people will never learn to accept.

Weather you believe in god or not, organized religion is not for everyone. Nor does everyone believe you have to be grouped up to be a good, believer.

In my views. A person does not have to go pray with a bunch of people. It is a private thing that should be done alone or with close family.

Churches are probably not as full as they used to be because of the growing intolerance within those churches, not that churches have ever been beacons of tolerance; but, yes they could and can provide comfort if you fit within the narrow range of what they consider acceptable.

As for neglecting our Christians heritage, I am more concerned about neglecting our intelligence, something which I fear is increasingly happening in the world and in my country, the USA, where in the present elections we are talking about "faith," who has it and what does it mean, instead of what are we going to do about Iraq? What are we going to do about the environment and global warming? What are we going to do about education and health care? What are we going to do and poverty and the economy?

Do you have a mouse in your pocket?

Probably because churches have had too many mini-schisms.
The birth rate probably isn't high enough to fill all the new denominations which spring up each year..
