I imagine that my answer will stir up some controversy, I will not apologize as this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to it.
The question is Was Jesus a religious man or a spiritual? Well, to be honest we don't really know that answer to that as we only have the Bible to go by and that is a flawed book. The reason I say flawed is it was translated by man from it's original text, they added and took away what they chose, thus making it what Man wanted it to be. That is really unfair to us.
I am a Pagan, a witch, but I believe in Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit, just for the record, but I also believe in the Goddess. Because if you read the Bible you can not have anything with out having both Male and Female to create anything. Thus my belief in both Male and Female Deities.
As far as whether Jesus was religious or spiritual, I believe he was like me, a little bit of both.
The Bible said, the just before Jesus ascended to Heaven, he told his disciples that the things that he did they would do and greater things would they do. But I was raised in Church to believe that all the promises that were made to the disciples we also made to us (born again Christians) too.
(Yes I was raised in a Charismatic Christian Church right up until my mid 30's) So with that belief system then we should be able to do all the things that Jesus did while he was walking this Earth, am I right? Aright then.
He walked on water, healed the sick. turned water into wine, raised the dead, calmed the storms on land and at sea, fed the multitudes with fishes and loaves of bread, and he knew the future, he knew who was going to turn on him and how they would betry him.
With that said I have a theory, some Pagans believe that these miricles that Jesus performed were actually what we call Magick, (not magic, not abracadabra stuff) some of us believe that his Spirituality was actually because he was in fact a witch. That is not to say he was not the Son of God, but let's just say he was also the Son of the Goddess also. He can then of course do all of those miracles that he did, and we can to, as we are their direct decendents.
We can do all that he did and greater things is what he told his diciples. Greater then raising the dead, greating the walking on water, or turning water into wine, or feeding thousands with fishes and loaves of bread? Yes I can see that, I believe he was a great man, but I also believe that he was a Witch. One of the greatest commandments is love one another, one of the Witches Creed is do what ye will, but harm none. In plain english, Love everyone, (the Bible) do what you can but above everything harm no one, love everyone (Witches Creed) sounds pretty close to me huh?
Your question Religious or Spiritual, I believe Jesus was Religiously Spiritual. Make sense to you, does to me..... hope that I did not offend, that was not my intention, I just wanted to give a new perspective on how this may actually be, one that I have yet to see in any blog, or on any site yet.... maybe I'll ask that question.... My personal opinion is spiritual. My understanding from reading the Bible is that Jesus had huge problems with the "religious" structures and teachings, feeling that it was of man and not of God. I feel Jesus' message there was unfortunately lost once again, as the world is once more caught up in "religion" instead of true spirituality. Jesus feasted with sinners, He said "Why have doctors if they only spend time with those who are well?" In other words, instead of gathering only with the enlightened, we should be reaching out to those who are the most lost. I certainly don't see that in any "religion" throughout history.

Jesus is merely a fictional character that is a personification of the SUN, the bible is all based around the story of the Zodiac, which is the basis of the way we keep time. It's why our clock is divided into 12 hours a day. Jesus is the Sun in the age of Pisces.

Zodiac the two fishes
Jesus - the fisher of men, that fed the world with 2 fish.

Go look up some photos of the Oldest Christian Church that they're excevating in Israel, what's the mosaic on the floor of? The astrological sign of Pisces the two fish of course...

Time isn't based upon when a fictional character was born or died. Religion has hijacked our basic sense of time keeping with their BC/AD crap, an age lasts 2,000 some odd years, it takes 25,000 years for the Sun to complete its revolution around the Milky way, and go through all 12 ages/constellations of the zodiac. We're nearing the end of the age of Pisces right now. Buy a clue Christians... your church leaders are laughing all the way to the bank, they know this stuff!

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience.
We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.

Jesus have brought the secret knowledge (gnosis) of the Spiritual word necessary for salvation.
Jesus was a human who became possessed by the Spirit of Christ during his baptism.
Jesus is the Holy Spirit.

The religious Hierarchy crucified Jesus. He went against many of the Jewish laws. They hated Him.Jesus was the truth. And He was a Man with God's blood inside Him.

Jesus is spiritual love.

They asked Him about eating pork.Jesus said it is not what goes in your mouth that matters. It is what comes out of your mouth that counts.

Jesus said if you live by the law you die by the law.

Spiritual. If he were religious he would have agreed with the Jewish priests and his life wouldn't have lead to the creation of a new religion.
