Recently a friend of mine came back from a trip to another state that he took with his sister, her husband, and their 2 girls. One is about 11 and the other 14. They stayed in a motel that had 2 beds, and was not allowed a cot or other sleeping furniture because they said the motel had a 4 room occupancy limit. The parents slept in one bed with the 11 year old and the 14 year old girl slept in the other bed with her uncle, my friend. He is about 50 years old. I acted shocked at this information and he said it was fine, the first night him, his sister, and the 11 year old slept in one bed, the husband in the other, but the 3 of them made it too hot and crowded, so the next night they adjusted to the sleeping arrangement I have disclosed. His sister is very nice and a Christian, so I suppose she trusts her 50 year old brother, but I find this disturbing. He talks about this girl quite alot , taking her picture constantly. Am I silly to think bad of that situation?

Super creepy. Any way you can talk to the 14 year old and ask her if she's feeling ok about it?

In that situation I would have had all the females in one bed - Mom and the two girls in one and the two guys could have slept in the other bed. No way would I ever let a grown man sleep in the same bed as my 14 year old girl - not even my own brother!

You are not silly to think bad about that situation - it was inappropriate for this to happen.

Edit - for littleJaine - pedophiles are more common than you think, dear. Even having the parents in the same room does not make it ok. It is inappropriate to subject a 14 year old girl to this - better sleeping arrangements could have been made. The parents made a poor choice and left their little girl in a very vulnerable position.

2nd edit - Midnight - what cultures are you talking about? In my studies I have never come across this idea that older men of a family sleep in the same bed as girls. In most of the cultures I have studied there are very strict rules or taboos separating the sleeping and sometimes eating rituals of the females and males in a group. Even if there aren't these types of taboos - then there is usually a hierarchy about who sleeps in a bed (adults) and who sleeps on the floor (children).
So, Midnight, I'd love to learn more - please feel free give some names of culture groups that allow older male relatives to sleep with younger female relatives.

I am sure you you can answer that question yourself. Keep an eye on a 50 year old man that sleeps with his 14 year old neice.

Does Pedophile ring any bells and whistles for you?

How do you know "something else hasn't happened? You are NOT silly. You can also check whether he has a pedophile record. That information is available online.

This is a disturbing situation, perhap you should contact the police to see if he has a pedophile criminal record.

Please contact the police as soon as possible, do not wait too long.

Good Luck.

Any adult should see that this is totally inappropriate. There is nothing normal about a 50 year old man sleeping in the bed with a 14 year old girl.

I haven't been feeling really well for a while. I don't recall exactly when the last time was I changed or slept. My doctor said something like, "The Brakaprolliframistall is not working, so we're going to give you a larger Gandalf booster. At this point I just smile and say, "Sure. What's the worst that could happen."

No you are not, at all. I dont think thats ok. I know it was probably innocent and the parents where right there. But I could never imagine my child sleeping in a bed with a man of that age, when shes 40.

Not to mention if I was the 14 year old girl. That would be completly uncomfortable.

I am suspicious about the taking picture constantly. But let's not jump to conclusion. Why do people always think the worst. In many poor countries, lots of families share a house and many in the same bed. Uncles with their cousins, nephews, etc. It is sad when people stop having faith on people especially on their own family members. I give props to the sister. The sister known the brother for so long already. I don't think he gave anyone incentives that he plan to do anything bad to his own niece. Also it was just a one time thing.

I think we need to have more faith on people.

You are all being very silly. Pedafiles aren't all that common. The parents were in the same room! This guy is her Uncle. That's not all that weird. They're family, and she's his neice. He probably takes her picture because he's proud of her. If he's 50 and has no children of his own, it's perfectly normal for him to be obsessive about his nieces. Besides, it'd be almost impossible for him to do anything to the girl with her parents right there!

This is NEVER ok. The girl could have slept on the floor. .

Very disturbing, no innocent man should put themselves in that position. I cant believe the parents would put their daughter in that situation either!

No, you are not being silly. It is never OK for a man that age to sleep in the same bed with someone that age - neice or not.

no that dosent sound very good at all. though it could be perfectly harmless. it all depends on the uncle i guess. but if anything the females in one bed and the guys in another. too hott or not. turn on the ac. all hotel rooms come with them, no extra cost, and they cool the rooms down fast and all night.
