Why do people without real science backgrounds try to prove or disprove evolution....creation of the universe....etc.

I feel like most people with "strong opinions" just read some 3-page pamphlet or are banking on highschool science.

I guess i am semi biased because i am muslim.

Every muslim belives in the big bang... Just about every muslim accepts evolution........but most of them don't realize how crazy and beautiful it is.

Most people for that matter.

Augustine.

I believe in what you're saying 100%....there is definitely scientific bias. We do need need to question the "smart people" (spelt people right that time......i think i'm spelling "spelt" wrong though or thats not eve a real word....but i like it).

What my question thought was saying is that people aren't doing that...thinking on their own. They are reading the biased scientific data and are just regurgitating it without really knowing it.

I mean to understand evolution you need to understand biology.

TO truly understand biology you need to understand chemistry.......to truly understand chemistry you need to understand physics. Then you gotta connect the dots.

People are just not functioning on that level.

youre right. most of our arguments ( on both sides ) might not be all that educated. but its good that people try to think for themselves in stead of letting the "smart" people just tell us what to think.
no matter how intelligent the scientists might be, many of them have their own prejudices and alterior motives ( like the scientists paid big money to say that there is no global warming or that smoking doesnt cause cancer). we need to examine these things for our selves.

One could ask why you disparage those without a science background when you can't even write in proper English. You're sloppiness discredits you. Nevertheless, the validity of someone's claims ought not always be measured in such terms. To answer your specific critique as someone from a scientific background...please prove to us the cornerstone of science, that is the scientific method. If you are honest, you will admit that you cannot. It is as unprovable as evolution or theistic creationism. The question is one of worldview...do we live in a closed system or a system that can be acted upon by the supernatural. Furthermore, the question is really more about whether or not the supernatural has acted upon the system or not. The Bible claims the answer, "Yes." The claim deserves serious debate and answer, not ridicule.

It's funny how people seek to imply that people who do not believe in evolution are dumb or uneducated. Sometimes, common sense is enough to know whether something is wrong or right.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to question why we still have monkeys if people evolved from them.

It doesn't take a doctorate for someone to ask why there are so many gaps in the "fossil record".

One does not need to write a thesis before he notices that the design in nature cannot have come by accident- if even my simple blue toothbrush is made by someone, why should the world have developed by chance?

I've had my fair share of lectures on evolution over the years, and I decided that Creation makes much more sense.

I do not have any degrees in that field, because that would be a waste of time, trying to prove that God does not exist so that I can live my life however I want, unaccountable to anyone. Because that's the bottomline.

Science is built on the concept of theory. A theory is model to explain or predict natural phenomena and is capable of being tested or disproven through a process of falsification.

The reason Intelligent Design is neither theory nor science is because it lacks falsifiability.

For a brief introduction to theory, see Wikipeida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory ). Please do NOT assume Wikipedia is a credible source for all knowledge. I use Wikipedia as a starting point to gain a general understanding of a subject and then move on to other credible sources to learn more about the subject matter.

#1. Agreed.

Also, why do you need a science background to prove/disprove religion. The topic of religion doesn't even fall under science. Science is what we can see, hear, feel, taste, or touch. Religion theoretically doesn't fall under any of the five. Therefore, it is set aside as a theory that can't really be proven.

(you can't prove healing is a miracle, because you can just saw that the cells regenerated..then again, you can't say that the action of healing isn't a miracle because you have no evidence against it)

This is only my personal opinion.

God will not break his own laws, If he did I doubt he could be god. The laws of science (whatever they actually are we are far from all knowing ) As for evolution I have never seen a scripture which described how God created man from dust. Perhaps evolution was his method. I also don't believe time means to God what it means to Man here on earth.

And along the same lines...

Why are there people who have a question about a particular religious belief who always pick the one, "off-the-mark," guy that isn't even a member of that religion, as having the right answer. AND, there are 30 responses from members of that religious group and they've ALL posted THE SAME answer!

It's mind boggling!

Damned bruce...I was JUST going to point it out that you mispelled... you're taking all the fun out of being an atheist....

How bout this for an answer, because some people are really dumb? And even us lowly non-scientist types can help them at least understand something? Baby steps...you know?

I believe that people of strong religious views will never be swayed away from their indoctrination no matter how much evidence and absolutes are in front of them..
I am open to most ideas and theories, at least I will have a look at them, then analyse, I love history..
Blessings.. )O(

If you want to debate our scientific qualifications, go to Science section. Here it's opinion and belief. Yes, we have strong opinions. So what?
