Platinum plugs MIGHT help a bit to ensure all the fuel in the cylinder is burned, but I'm a bit skeptical about fuel savings. But, why not? There’s always the "cool" factor, plus you are incrementally upgrading the vehicle in doing so.

Also:

1. High tire pressure increases gas mileage, quite a bit actually. However this will reduce your ability to "hot rod" in the streets of your town. Keep the tires inflated at the high end of the manufacturers’ recommendation. Buy a QUALITY gauge and check them at least once a week.

2. Wings and air dams DO help a bit - at speeds above 45 mph.

3. You can put a hi-performance air filter, such as a "cold" air filter that replaces the original. These tend to increase noise but can add 5 hp. More hp - greater fuel efficiency.

4. If you plan to keep the vehicle, you can add a performance exhaust. Best results are obtained by replacing the engine manifold all the way back to the exhaust pipe. More hp - greater fuel efficiency.

5. Lightweight rims and hi-diameter tires do the same. Put 16 or 17" tires and rims on. More hp - greater fuel efficiency.

Most hi-performance upgrades will increase fuel economy and give more power. However, the tendency is to "floor it' and have fun with the new power which consumes more fuel. Items 4 & 5 are big bucks.

Driving tip:

1. Press the accelerator as if there's an egg under your foot. Slow and sure. This will conserve fuel by not making abrupt changes.

2. Brakes perform a negative function. Move fast, and you will wear brakes out faster ($$$). Travel moderately and save gas.

3. Don’t store a trunk full of crap in the car. Extra weight is just that – extra weight.

4. You can use cheap gas but use a fuel treatment occasionally, such as STP. They have an oil treatment that can reduce friction in the engine. Consider adding molybdenum disulfide treatment in the engine – it’s relatively cheap and you only need it once a year or so. Use quality oil.

5. Use the air conditioner less.

Have fun!

The spark plug only make a different if it the right one .Platinum plug has more live than the other for the material use in it , it doesn't make any other difference. The best way to improve on gas consumption its keep all tires at the right air pressure, air filter clean and fill it up at good gas station.
