She is probably "hearing" sounds like.....creaking noises, wind, rain, termites in walls even. Remember, they can sense things happening before a human can most times like, earthquakes. Their hearing is amazing and far passes the human side of hearing. So, when she is staring at the wall and looking alert, she is most likely hearing something from or around that area, or inside............or, outside the walls.

I know a lot of so-called ghost hunters have used dogs in their investigations because dogs pick up on small electrical changes in the atmosphere.
I read the book The Amityville Horror the other day and apparently the dog in that refused to go into certain rooms which the family knew to be most 'haunted'.
As it's never been proven that ghosts actually exist, it's impossible to prove if dogs can sense ghosts. Perhaps one day if the existence of ghosts can be proven, then further tests can be undertaken to see how well dogs pick up on them. It's an interesting question though.

I've heard they can. The old man next door had a dog and he would sit out on his back porch with the dog. One evening the dog bristled up and got up to see what was the matter.

The old lady that lived in the next house was sitting on her porch, but the problem is she had died nearly a year before. Since then, I've been visited by her spirit as I now live in the house.

Usually, around 3:30 a.m. i've been wakened out of a sound sleep by someone shaking the bed. Also have heard footsteps in the other room and the video VHS starting up and ejecting a tape. I thought I was being broken into.

Yes it is most definitely true. It's a good thing you asked when you did, as my owner will be back on this computer in a few minutes. By the way, Dogs can only sense evil ghosts. Be very, very careful.

Animals are sensitive to spirits and ghosts. It does not matter if it is a dog or cat, they sense things on a high level. Many psychics (the real ones) will verify that this is true.

HMMMM It seems like it could be possible. It seems she could be seeing or sensing someone being there. If she seems non hostel about the presence maybe she senses it's someone you know or someone close to you.

I'm not sure whether they can actually see them, but it's a well known fact that dogs & cats can sense a pressence around them before we can.
Also young children can apparantly see them too.
Before my nephew was 7 he could always see a young boy in there front garden by the front door, if anybody else went to look.......... nothing there.
Me personally believe there is something out there but not quite sure what!
Merry Christmas all.

Nobody knows whether animals can see spirits or not. Nobody knows what a dog's perception of the world is. Your dog's behavior is normal for a dog.

That's a very interesting point! Our Alsatian starting howling one night and we all sat up in bed wondering what was going on with him! My father got up and tried to console him but he was shivering and shaking all night. In the morning dad said he'd take him to the vet to see what was ailing him. Before he left for the vet he walked across to my Nana's house just across the street to check on her, (She was 82) and found her dead in bed! The dog has never howled since! Spooky hey?
