This is a common misconception among families with lower income--EIC increases their refund for 1 or 2 qualifying children, but not for more than 2. Since some preparers charge by the number of entries on the return, they get in the bad habit of only listing 2.

Families should list the number of children they have--if they have more than will fit on the form, they simply add a sheet of paper with the additional names and SSNs.

No it's not true anywhere. You claim however many eligible children you have.

Where the limit of 2 kids comes in is for Earned Income Credit - you don't get a larger EIC for having more kids than two.

You can CLAIM as many kids as you ACTUALLY have (each deduction MUST be accompained with a valid Social Security number) but afte about 8 I believe the deductions stop.

Each state that has an income tax will generally permit the number of deductions on THEIR tax form to mirror that of the Federal form although they MAY stop the deductions at a different number.

You claim all of your children on your taxes. The two kid limit is only when you eligible for Earned Income Credit.
