Guys seriously, it's just a movie, actually it's a book, but it tells of a non existent reality in which a very extremist version of the Catholic church is evil. Any views or opinions?
I asked this in Movies too

I had no interest in that film until I heard the paranoid yapping of fundies. Now, I will be sure to see it several times, even though the topic doesn't really interest me.

I think they just need something to distract them from the extreme violence and immorality in their own Bible, not that most of them have actually read the whole thing.

I am a believer and went to see the movie today. Harmless fantasy fare that will put you in mind of the Harry Potter saga.

Alas, religious zealots will complain in their flesh about anything that THEY think is "evil".

Its just a movie folks....movies don't jump out and send people to hell. What a person believes about Jesus Christ and His death, burial and resurrection is the solution for THAT.

I enjoyed the special effects and the computer generated animals and found the entire experience "entertaining"....hello, is that not why we GO to a movie?

Hey, people boycotted Jesus of Montreal and the Last Temptation of Christ, too. It doesn't have to be real to get people all worked up.

P.S. The Golden Compass movie does not say anything at all about killing God.

Kathryn: I just saw the movie. There is nothing in it that I could possibly consider "dirty."

"Everyone" isn't "freaked out." Several people from my church are going. It is a fantasy.
The author of the books upon which it is based is an atheist.
Any Christian who has a strong faith in God will not be upet by this.

I talked to a friend tonight whose husband is an elder in the church. She sees nothing wrong with it.

Her daughter wants to go see it as well.

Because the author is an Atheist and he reportedly kills off God in a future book.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office for Film and Broadcasting gave the film a rather warm review. It said, "The film is not blatantly anti-Catholic but a "generalized rejection of authoritarianism."

The review said Lyra and her allies' stand for free will in opposition to the coercive force of the "bad" Magisterium is "entirely in harmony with Catholic teaching."

Here is the entire review: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/movies/07mv242.htm

With love in Christ.

I agree! I am Christian, and was wondering the same thing. I personally don't have a problem with it. It's just a movie, and it's based on a work of fiction!

i do no longer understand why every physique makes one in each of those massive deal approximately such issues. like the e book and film The Da Vinci Code, it angers me while human beings declare it fairly is "attacking" their ideals. those movies do no such component. they only latest an option view. you are able to say that by the comparable argument, the keenness of the Christ is "attacking" Jewish ideals, with the aid of fact they suspect the Messiah has yet to return. i think of that every physique needs to loosen up somewhat.

Actually, I saw the movie - just a few hours ago, actually. I quite enjoyed it. I recommend it strongly ( had better graphics than Narnia, I thought).
