The US Constitution is equally ambivalent towards every religion. All are completely excluded from the Constitution and, therefore, the government of the United States.
Article VI of the Constitution requires an oath be taken to the Constitution itself—solely; not to the Bible, Qur’an, or any religious document or faith.
• “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
This was reaffirmed by (unanimous vote) the 1797 Congress and President John Adams”
• “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,…”

I would have no problem with public schools allowing Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Native American, Seikh, Ba'hai, 12-Step prayers, excerpts, poems, etc.
There is this incredible Indian movie, I can't think of it's title, with English subtitles, that just lasts forever...you literally have to turn it off to go pee... Anyway, in it, Christian, Muslim, and Hindu peoples banded together for one cause and all prayed in one accord, and God answered! in such a profound way! I realize it was fiction, but it makes a point worth thinking about.
If anybody watches Indian movies, please post the movie's title. At one point the young lady was kidnapped and was held hostage on a ledge from which she could reach the radio to which her kidnapper was listening while he was cooking breakfast and she kept changing the channel, so he broke an egg, then stood on his head.... that scene was really funny.

While everybody has inherent rights guaranteed by the constitution, it is the christians who apparently stand by their beliefs , to share to everybody the heavens promised by the Bible and to warn everybody about the soon coming judgment in the fires of hell . . believe it or not.
Sadly, athiest can never have a creed. It is impossible to pray to a non existent god , isn't it ? And muslim prayer could hardly be prayed by americans because its in arabic. We should be contented with christian prayer because it is the only one which we can direct our prayer to a supreme being, and its the one we can understand (because it is in english and not in Latin or arabic) .
No persecution is happening. In Yahoo Answers , its quite different. Its the athiests who acts as BIG BROTHER.

I'm about to totally offend the christian right in my small town lol. It is against the law to put up religious paraphenilia on government property. We have a little manger scene in front of our police station. It has been there for the last 50 years. I'm currently suing the city to have it removed.

Man, oh, man... it's awfully quiet in here...
I think I hear crickets...
Edit:
Tonic Black and Georgemichael... the people who came to this country did so to escape forced religion! This country was founded on freedom of religion!! Even they knew, regardless of their own beliefs, that everyone deserves the right to choose for themselves! Know your facts a bit better.

It is because this country was founded by Christians escaping religious persecution. How much worse would it be if it had been founded by Muslims escaping religious persecution.
I'm sure you won't like this answer... but it is the answer.

Well said. What they MEAN is that they deserve special treatment just because they're Christian. Its pretty despicable behavior really.
