I dont know much about the rules of Sikhism...but I would like to convert, and learn more about the religion. When someone converts to sikhism, is there a name change requirement?

Sikhs don't proselytize, but anyone can become a Sikh. Sikhism can also offer inspiration to people of any faith, or of none.

The word Sikh literally means student. Sikhs believe in one God, and take spiritual guidance directly from Sri Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh scripture; poetry written and collected by the ten human Sikh Gurus). They believe God is without form or incarnation, and not just something external, but found within every person. Sikhs believe in complete equality, with no one being any higher than another; they typically emphasize this by men using Singh and women using Kaur in favor of other surnames. Sikhs reject idols, rituals, and extreme practices such as celibacy or ascetism as ways to approach God, in favor of a wholesome family lifestyle, community service, and meditation on the name and true nature of God. Sikhs intend to be recognizable, and wear turbans in part to keep their hair neat, which is keep uncut as a demonstration of respect for God's creation.

I'm not a Sikh, but think anyone will benefit from learning about them, and that they deserve great respect.

A caged animal never wants to be free, because cage is made of Gold and studded with diamonds. How beautiful this cage is!

But why change religion? What is the objective?

Read what "Goonhild" is saying.

You might want to read Guru Granth Sahib (book of Sikhs) and understand. Girls normally have "Kaur" and boys will gave "Singh" as middle name.

How do you know if you want to be a Sikh if you don't know anything about the religion? That's like saying you want to go to prison because you like wearing orange overralls. There's a lot more to something than just a name and the way people dress. Do some research and then decide. Religion is too important. This isn't a haircut you're getting.

If you're a girl you have to add the name kaur (sp?) which means princess. Go to http://www.sikh.net Even if you can't fully convert, they are open to allowing you to learn and worship and participate in their holidays.

There should be a Sikh organization in most cities. You can discover more about this small religion there.
