For the last few months i have been having major chest pains on my left side. Some times its more towards my left breast, and sometimes its more in my shoulder (99 percent in the shoulder though).. When i do get it, it is usually really sevear and painful. When i went to the doctor last month for a different reason, i completely forgot to mention it because i hadnt had the pain in over 2 weeks. i had it again last week, and this morning i woke up with it.. today it would only hurt when i bent down, but now its hurting every second and extremly bad. During the summer, there was a week straight were i was crying and couldnt sleep it hurt so bad but i was in another country so couldnt go to a doctor. I don't do any phycial work that would cause this, and it just randomly comes. I am a 17 year old female, average weight and size. Right now it really hurts and im wondering if it sounds serious enough to make the long trip to the hospital?

I know you want answers, but you really need to go see a doctor. It sounds very serious. Even if an answer here seems to make sense to you, you still need to go see a doctor to confirm and diagnose properly. Sorry for the lame answer, but you have to go see a doctor.

Yes, you should go. And going to ER is a good thing as they can draw the blood gasses and see if your heart is actually being damaged, verses going to a regular GP. Do it so you can get this out of your head and know for sure. It will make you feel better if you know what it is and worth it. It might be pleurisy, but quit guessing and find out for sure. At your age it could be a congenital heart defect and you want to rule that out. There are so many things that could turn bad over months that you will hate yourself for years later because you didn't get it treated now.
At least rule out all the bad stuff and ER is a good place to do it. BTW, there is "no waiting" in ER with chest pains. That is how important they take it... even at 17. Tell them about it hurting so bad you cried. That's important. Since some girls your age will experience static electric shock walking across carpet and claim they were "electrocuted." They need to understand this is not an exaggeration on your part.

I have the same exact thing. I went to the cardiologist and he said it is not any thing to worry about and, it will work it's way out. Even though the pains are very severe, just remember to take it slow and relax when it is happening. There is no real cause (that they could find) of this and I had a lot of tests done. Unfortunately, there is no magic medicine for this. No cure. Just remember to relax and don't let it worry you.
Sorry this is happening to you. I know how painful and frightening it can be. If you want any more support, or, just somebody to talk to e-mail me anytime at albinism.angel@yahoo.com
Good Luck!

of course you should know its serious if its severe pain continuously...it can be signs of a heart problem especially if your left arm/shoulder and chest are hurting... i say the next thing you do tomorrow morning (if its night right now for you) go to the doctor!! you can't pretend like nothings wrong. its better to worry about your health than anything else. go to the doctor.

Even though you are only seventeen that does not mean that this couldn't be heart related issue. I would reccomend defianetly calling the closest er, and make a vist. I do believe you need to vist your primary physcian and have them make you a referal to a cardiologist ASAP.
There are other possibilities, but it is far better to be safe than sorry. In my husbands family it is not uncommon to have these issues even as a teen.

If you were 40 I would say symptoms of a heart attack, but unlikely for you. Try taking some Motrin, and some antacid. It could be a pulled muscle and or indigestion. If this does not work, I would go to the hospital.

It would be very rare for this to be a heart attack, but it could be something else to do with your heart of another organ.
I wouldn't wait much longer to go to the doctor. Don't know why you haven't before.

If you can not get to a doctor right away and I mean tonight. Then call the hospital closest to you and speak with a nurse. Do not blow this off. I am sorry your step mom is not treating this appropriately. She is only human and people make mistakes. Please call a nurse immediately.

Sounds like a rib issue. Consult with your doctor to see if this is the case.
