I am making a salad dressing and it calls for sesame oil, can I use anything else? My walmart doesn't carry it!?

A decent substitute for sesame oil is vegetable oil. Unless you're dealing with something strongly-flavored like chili, garlic, or truffle oil, most of it is pretty generic. But really, sesame oil shouldn't be too hard to find. Check out Asian or international markets in your area. There's a ton of other great stuff there, too, so budget for a bit more than the oil!

I think using sesame oil in a recipe that calls for it is essential. It has a very strong, distinctive taste that can't be substituted. I've bought it at Walmart before, so try looking in a few other sections. First look by the olive oils and balsamic vinegars, next in the dressing section, then the oriental section. You should find it in on of those places.

That's a hard one. Sesame oil has such a distinct flavor. Go to an Asian market. If that isn't viable, I guess garlic oil might do. But it's like pesto made with parsley instead of basil: good, but not what you were shooting for.

Well, you could probably use olive oil. However, sesame oil adds a distinct aroma to food, which is why the recipe may have called for it. Not every other oil can give you this....

Any major grocery store should carry it in the International food isle. If recepie calls for Sesame oil, you should not substitute or the taste will be very different.
GOOD LUCK

Could you find sesame seeds? If so, lightly toast them & add them to your dressing. They will give you the sesame taste, then you can use canola oil, & you should still have a pretty tasty salad dressing.
