On some levels, this is not a bad idea. Right now we have a viable African-American Presidential candidate--something unthinkable during the civil rights movement 40 years ago. At this moment, an atheist candidate is not even remotely possible. Maybe we need a "movement" to educate the vastly theist country about those who don't share their beliefs but are decent, intelligent people.

to answer your question, no, athiest people don't give a **** about what other people think of how they choose not to believe, but yes, i do think that christians would sick dogs on non churchies, and turn water hoses on non churchies....look at history and how many wars were faught while christians tried to convert the whole world....christians are the reason most people choose to be non churchies....its christians who have the problem, they are the ones who go out into the world preaching to tribes in africa or any other country they can not get killed in, athiest folks just tend to go to work or school and live as though religion isnt a factor, athiest are not involved in this religion war....we only reflect back what christians put out. as to make them look at themselves. and thier silly theories....and then they get mad, cause a christian could NEVER win the religious debate against a well read athiest....there are just to many flaws in the bible and all its religions.

The greatest shortcoming today is the unshakeable unwillingness to allow that more than one ideology can exist simultaneously with yours. I'm not an atheist, but if anybody had a clue what God intends, we wouldn't need 223 worldwide religions(not to mention 500 or so Protestant sub-sects)to sort it out for us. Keep the faith, but your religion, whatever it might be, is indeed, the opiate of the masses. We would be much less hypocritical if opium were the opiate of the masses

wow... someone has an inferiority complex mixed with a lot of anger... or something! I can't say that as atheist I feel all that "unequal" from any person who believes in any of the major deities... I'm not even sure where you're going with this whole atheist movement idea you've completely freaked out about... but you're obviously pretty freaked out about it.
Not to mention the fact that "christians" and christians have throughout history (including today) have been some of the most violent and hateful people the world has ever seen... I don't wanna piss them off!

I think that you will find that most atheist today do not hail Randi as their spokesperson but would agree with him on questions of the veracity of what is commonly called the “supernatural.”
Many outspoken popular atheist like Dawkins, Harris and Higgins are however organizing their efforts worldwide via their published works, the internet, conferences and their participation in religious debates.
What they would most likely (if ever) protest against would be legislative efforts that limit their freedoms of thought and their right to assemble as they please.
I’m pretty certain that many atheists would NOT support political candidates who claim to be deeply religious like Romney for instance.

We don't have to.
The heyday of organized religion is well past.
All you have to do is look at the idiots in the Sudan, calling for the execution of a teacher who *let her students* name a teddybear 'Muhammad'. Look at the Catholic Church, shelling out millions of dollars to the victims of its clegy's abuse. Look at the Fundamental Baptists, crying to raise money only to land in the lap of Greed and Lust. Look at the Mormons who find it acceptable to rape or allow the rape of 14 year-old girls. Look at the Quakers who sit so proud and watch as the world passes them by.
The reason Jesus preached on the mountainside was so that those who wanted to listen had to get off their butt and go up the mountain while those who didn't want to listen wouldn't be coerced.
That's a lesson you should take home.

Christians started the civil rights movement? Christians want equality? aren't Christians the ones that gay bash and condemn anyone who is different of doesn't share their beliefs? I am Atheist and I happen to 100% believe in equality and i think Christians would be the 1sdt to turn fire hoses on anyone. not all Christians mind you, I'm not closed minded like you. just the extremist ones.

I have no clue who James Randi is, nor do I care. Atheists don't care about the religious in general and people are perfectly fine with my belief where I live.

because I just don't care enough, honestly. I don't care what other people believe and I don't care of what they think of me. I'm perfectly happy to make them gasp when i say i'm athiest and treat me like a leper. At least i don't get bothered to be sociable and invited to Mary Kay parties and have to pretend to agree with everything and be a slave to popular thought.
I kinda like being the outcast. it's more interesting.
