I'm Christian, and I've owned the books for years. I plan on seeing the movie, and if I like it (and I expect to), I will eventually own that as well. I have no children, but if I did, I would be confident enough in my parenting to be able to answer questions (Can I say that, having none? Oh well, I did.). Do you think you won't be able to filter what you don't agree with? Do you just "not want to line atheists' pockets," as I saw on an MSNBC board? Or is it something else?

I don't intend to sound aggravated, but I kinda am. At uninformed Christians who refuse to inform themselves.

Have a nice night, anyway!

I apologize for beating a dead horse, as the case may be, but at least I didn't ask a teddy bear Mohammed question!

I will not be boycotting the film. What's the point? It's just a film. Many Christians do the same thing with their movies--try to appeal to children and mass media to gain converts. It's become a double standard, hasn't it? Instead, I think these angry people need to focus on spreading love the message of God instead of being so angry at people who don't believe the same thing we do. How is anger in ourselves going to be productive in our society?

It just hurts me to see people more concerned with boycotting people who don't believe the same thing we do and promoting a sense of unacceptance in our society---how does that present Christianity to non-believers? Not in a very good way, if you ask me.

Honestly, I wasn't going to see it even before this whole fiasco. The books didn't interst me and it looks like a stock fantasy film. LOTR was a good movie, but now every fantasy movie has to look like it's clone. I was pretty upset with Narnia for that as well. Golden Compass looks the same. I don't want to see it because I feel like I've seen too many movies like it already.

Besides, I only have limited money. I'm saving my pennies for Sweeney Todd.

I haven't made up my mind about seeing this movie, but I'm leaning in the direction of NOT. After reading Mr.Pullman's website, I find that I agree and disagree with him. He is a confirmed atheist, and I don't want to contribute to an atheistic view, both financially and socially. I do agree with him in that organized religion is sometimes dangerous. People are flawed and often do terrible things to one another. Right now I'm thinking that I will save my time and money on something more positive.

I've read interviews of the man who wrote the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, and he makes no secret of his hatred for C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia." He has also expressed his intense dislike of God and Christianity. A person's religious beliefs shape the way that s/he writes, and these books involve the "killing of a senile God."

I've done the research and made the informed decision not to read the books or see the movies. It's a personal choice, and I have no intention of trying to impose my views on anyone else. Not every book or movie is right for every person. This one just doesn't happen to be the one for me, that's all.

definite. i visit make an imperial decree: I, Emperor Insania, decree that questions that pertain to the Golden Compass from this 2d forward would be deemed eating questions while it fairly is linked with the thought of boycotting it.

I don't see the purpose of boycotting this movie. It is a movie. If an individual's faith is that weak, then he/she has more issues with their beliefs than boycotting a movie can solve.
