The sad truth is that people in cults have no idea how insideous these cults are and how psychologically manipulative they are. To understand why a person would dig their heels in and defend to the death such erroneous concepts and even outright abuse, you have to understand some things about power and control tactic and Stockholm syndrome. I am about to put out a book that covers these and many other relevant aspects. Here is an interview I did this week on the subject. It is in 4-parts and is now on the You Tube site. Check it out and your eyes will be opened to the psychology that is used on cult victims and the reasons why those who come out carry so much dysfunction with them:

Good one Pedi!
I also wonder the exact same thing. I'm sure like you I've gotten some responses that only allow me to hear how "enlightened" they are. I've seen some fantastic line dancing and multiple personalities but the ignorance is always the same. (Maybe the FBI should use that instead of fingerprints?) When judgment day comes, they can't say that they weren't warned!
However I've had some people who are genuinely honest about what they were taught and they wanted to know why I believed the way I did. I asked them questions as well, and they only came to one conclusion...it wasn't the conclusion they originally had.
I also get notes of encouragement and well as help from others.
I mostly get hate mail from jw's but, just so they aren't left out, I also get it from mormons, atheists, evolutionists, false converts, feminists, homosexuals, the list goes on.
I guess you could call me a hitman that uses Bibles instead of guns.
But then again I try only to speak Scripture as that is how I want to become fluent when speaking as well as putting it to pavement.

My brothers and sisters have answered adequately. I just want to make an observation. The Asker wants know why we go through basic training in Bible knowledge before getting baptized, but how often do we hear or read people stating that those who become Jehovah's Witnesses do not know what they are getting into until it is too late. Seems like either way we do they would say we are wrong. Also, to the one who made the comment about knowing vs taking in knowledge: 2 points - 1. How can you come to know someone without taking in knowledge about them? The only way we can form a personal relationship with Jehovah or Jesus is know their likes and dislikes, what they approve or disapprove of, what they want us to do, etc. All that is in the Bible, so we have to learn that. 2. Perhaps you should check Strong's Concordance for the word "know." One meaning is "to learn to know."

I get all sorts of private replies from all sorts of people about a wide variety of topics.
There are many people who read these Questions and Answers who never post a question and never post a reply.
When I answer questions, I'm answering mostly for their benefit.

Yes, one or two genuine ones but mostly nasty ones from certain JW's who post on here, had to even block a Nazi sounding one as he was relentless in his abusive arrogant attitude. I was also targeted by at least one of those with multiple personalities trying to add me to their contacts, they reported all my questions and answers and had them removed even though they did not contradict community guidelines. Shows how low they can go.

Not me, but then I don't post anti:D Honestly, I am kinda surprised how many have bothered to ask me questions about my beliefs, seeming, at least on the surface to be interested.

All that one needs to know about the Jehovah's Witnesses is that they do not believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ. And this is the very definition of Antichrist. <'((((><

Yes...my favorite one was when I was told that my opinion was invalid and I should remain silent.
I figured that said a LOT about the sender!!
