By the way worthless recruit, if you stayed in a motel and took the bible home with you, that would be considered stealing in my books!

Sometime when I hire a stripper I get so excited on the way to the hotel I forget to bring rolling papers. I only take a few pages and leave the rest in the drawer.

I question wether or not it is the most stolen book.

Realize that, for example, a group called The Gideons, place bibles in hotel rooms. They don't mind if you take them. If you tell the hotel personel, "oh, I took the bible with me", they will say, "okay, I'll call the Gideons and they will bring me a replacement." I wonder if these Gideon bibles are being counted as "stolen" in the above statistic. It is not stealing if they want to give it to you - it is a gift.

Anyhow, the most widely published book, ever, is the bible. If you break into a room and it is filled with 1000 books, and you take them all, odds are, the "most stolen" book in that room is the bible. Statistically, one would suspect that the most widely published book in history would be the most stolen book.

I will say this though. A friend of a friend is a garbage collector. He says you see EVERYTHING in the trash. People throw away all kinds of stuff like you would never imagine. He has, however, as of yet, to see a bible in the trash.

PS: No need to seal one. You can download one for free from Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/. A couple of different translations (all the non-copyrighted ones) are there. I think they have the Quran too if you're interested. Wouldn't be surprised if Strong's Exhaustive Concordence is there too. There are, of course, many on-line searchable ones too. http://www.biblegateway.com/ or http://www.blueletterbible.org/ (has greek, etc.). Oh, there's also http://www.mp3bible.org/ where you can download the KJV in MP3 format.

Literally "stolen" by thieves, or stolen as in many different cultures wrote their own version and "plagiarized" the original?

If you mean that in the sense it was taken by thieves, all I can say is, "OK..."

If you mean that in the sense that it was "plagiarized", remember that ANY trademark or patent wears off once the maker is dead. And I don't believe there was one on the original Bible. So technically nothing is being stolen, because by not signing a lifelong patent/trademark you are simply opening up a book to the world.

In any case, I don't think there was any single person who wrote it, or even group. The Bible is just a compilation of beliefs of the older societies. Not an imaginative work or a book of fact by someone. It doesn't have a "By" name. Nobody can claim credit for creating it. All we can do is take it and modify it a bit, if at all.

By the way, if you meant it the way where thieves steal it the most, then where did you get that fact? I mean, the Bible is dished out for free in many places. Oh, and there is some irony in that the Bible is a big book of copying other people's beliefs and ideas.

The Bible does no longer provide an excellent determination for the Magi. and despite if it did, they might have traveled with servants, bodyguards, p.c.. animals, attainable a spouse or 2, toddlers and greater. it could have been a great caravan with various hundred human beings in it. Their arrival is reported to have merely concern in the process the city of Jerusalem. 3 men on camels does no longer have executed that the thought that there have been 3 magi comes from the certainty that they presented 3 presents to the youngster Jesus. it could have been lifelike to anticipate some variety of a latest from each traveling dignitary. So 3 presents ought to fairly mean that there have been 3 Magi.

Considering the fact that the Bible has sold more copies than any other book in history(according to the Guinness Book of World Records) it's obviously a much sought after book so it's only logical that its acquisition oftentimes consists of theft rather than purchase.

You mean the bible consists of stolen stories and myths from other cultures without giving due credit?

Ironic indeed.

The big 10 are also stolen, by the way.

I would have to say that if people cannot afford a bible, and they want to worship or learn about God. They would steal. Then pray to be forgiven by God for stealing that bible. Makes sense :)

Do you mean that it is stolen out of hotel rooms and hospitals? I believe that is the reason that the Gideons place them there so that someone will read it and get saved.
