Ok, I am talking about The Golden Compass. For some reason, anytime anything comes out depicting magic, witchcraft, or a church that lies and hides the truth, the churches nut out and think that it's going to spark some enormous movement against religion? (Harry Potter, The Da Vinci Code, and now The Golden Compass) I mean, it's sience fiction and the churches just oppose it like the very depthsof hell are rising up against them. What is the big f()ckin deal here? They're just stories. The Golden Compass doesn't depict killing god. The trilogy spawning from the Golden Compass uses symbolism (Just like any other story does) and leads up to the killing of original sin in the last book. It's not bad at all, and in fact, the last book of the trilogy, called "The Amber Spyglass" where people are saying they do "kill god", was nominated for an award because it was a great childrens book. It's just a story christians, You've been here for 2000 years, I don't think a story will kill you.

Hi,
LOL, actually the movie may spark more interest in the Church of Rome. Many like big powerful organizations, even churches. Now before the DaVinci code started the so called secret organization, Opus Dei had about 175 members at most over the last 45 years. After the book and movie Opus Dei had its phones ringing off the hook and its sites flooded with more than 13,500 people in the US alone who wanted to apply to join. Lets see what transpires!

The bible is just a book and churches are formed around it. Perhaps they're afraid their will be a new Golden Compass Church then people will leave their pews for the new ones which of course would result in less money in the collection plate.

I'm a Christian, and I don't care if people see "The Golden Compass" or read Harry Potter books. I support freedom of speech. I am neither threatened by works of fiction, nor opposing viewpoints.

Books like the Golden Compass have the potential to lead people astray ... and these days, when most people are already very confused ... it doesn't take much to mess up someone's life.
The church will always be here, no matter what. We have God's word on it.

First of ALL
i have yet to see a TRUE believer say anything about the movie
i will say this from its previews it looks well made , and probably a good story . But not everything that glitters is gold.
i love good movies , and i'm a TRUE believer , but i'm also a smart one and dont waste time nor money on such things...when it comes to TV and it will , i may view it but its no big deal , as you say its just a fictional book of characters.
I like the harry potter thing ( the way it was made)BUT, thought it very boring to be honest and didnt waste time or effort to watch it , after about 15 minutes realized it wasnt worth my time....this one probably the same way........so i wont waste my time....but to say its evil and wicked and full of devilish things i wont say that...its just a movie about imaginational things that cant happen nor will ever happen , just like the potter stories its more waste then effort . BUT IMAGINATION can be a good thing as well as a bad thing.........its all in ones ability to know the difference...and i for one wouldnt allow every child to view it just on those merits alone....
But to say its evil or devilish..NO...soap opras , most sitcoms , and so called family cartoons such as bart and family guy, south park now that stuff is TRASH.......and should be taken from the air.........BUT in ALL honesty...anyone who cares anything about thier child, wouldnt allow it to be viewed anyway.................and a REAL BELIEVER wouldnt either as well as atheists or any body with any morality at all !!!!!!!!

A few from the church overreact just like there are people out there who overreact to things all the time. But, if it is not something the church wants to support then they can voice their opinion within their own constraints and suggest to their religious followers not to read it. However, I don't think they should go around the world saying its a bad book and is threatening.

Any religious affiliation that has to flex it's muscles like that is distrusting God as if His truth can possibly be threatened. It probably has to do with the lack of true faith in the hierarchy. at very least they believe that their parishioners might be dissuaded from their Church (that their members are of such weak faith). People that know should easily see through that foolishness.
They should be worried... about their works and nobody else's, God sees it all.

In reality it doesn't threaten the church.
I heard a lot of people over the years tell me not to watch something because its from the "God-botherers but I don't think they thought it would destroy Atheism. Its merely a case of group censorship warning blown out of all proportion. Both sides are guilty of this. For the record I don't think its a killer either.

well heres the reason:out of the adults born in the 20's 65% of US citicens clamed to be Bible believing Christians; in the baby boomer generation 35% of the US citicens clamed to be Bible believing Christians; now only 4% of our generation claim to be Bible believing Christians. If statistics continue less than 1 percent of the next generation will mearly claim to be Bible based Christians
