I have 3 doubles. 2 O/Us and a S/S. The S/S is a Stevens 311 16ga. The O/Us are a 12ga. and 20ga. They are both imported by EAA. The model number is IZH27 and they have a single selective trigger and interchangeable chokes. They were about $379 each and they both shoot fine. They aren't as nice as my dad's Brownings but they shoot just as good and I don't have to worry about scratching them while quail or pheasant hunting. I also use them for trap and skeet and they have held up to thousands of rounds. As for the O/U vs. the S/S, I shoot them both with the same accuracy.

It is really a matter of personal preference. Many folks like the over/under because both barrels are in the same sight plane.
I prefer a side x side double, to me, they feel handier and point better than an o/u.
The bad part is that for under $500.00, you won't find a new good quality gun of either type. If you are lucky, you might find a good condition Savage M-311 sxs, or an old Fox Model B in the under $500.00 range on the used gun market, but that is about it.
If you want good quality in an inexpensive shotgun, you will have to go with a pump shotgun, and IMNSHO, Mossberg's M-500 is the best of the breed.

I very own 2 Stoeger element-by making use of-element shotguns that are made in Brazil. One is a 28 gauge uplander and the different is a 12 gauge coach weapons. They sell for greater or less $350 while on sale in the autumn. great fee in a shotgun. I even have had no problems with them.

Over/under vs. side by side is far anad away a matter of personal preference. I personally greatly prefer a pump model--a Remington 870 is a quality firearm; durable and inexpensive. I purchased mine for well under $200 at a local Wal*Mart when I was younger.

it really depends what you want to use a shotgun for bird-hunting, rabbit-hunting, trap/sporting clays etc. but side x sides are a little old fashioned i would suggest an over under gun or even an autoloader if you want a great shotgun i have a beretta 303 which is an autoloader and it is a fantastic gun i use it for sporting clays and pheasant hunting but sorry i dont have any specific shotgun models to recommend to you i hope this is somewhat helpful

I would highly recommend the Remington Model SPR310 Over/Under which retails for about $490, or the Remington Model SPR210 side x side which retails for about $400. Both are build very solid, are very reliable, and point well. I have shot both and my preference is for the SPR310 Over/Under. That being said, it is really a personal preference as both are very good choices. If you plan to do a lot of clay bird shooting, I would recommend the Over/Under because it has less kick.

There is none better than the Remington 870 pump shotgun, which has been around since 1950, and is the standard by which popular shotguns are judged.

Buy a good used one and you will be able to buy the one you like the best.* A new gun does not shoot any better than a used gun & you save $$$$$.*

I prefer my side by side L.C.Smith but it doesn't matter , it's just what you would feel comfortable with, there are many companies that offer both types at a resionable price
