If his ear is pussing and bleeding, it is a very serious ear infection. He is also in great discomfort and pain. If you don't take him to the vet now, you will be paying much more money in the near future to treat further problems. They will most likely prescribe an ointment or antibiotic. This happens when you own a dog, you have to be financially prepared... or at least have a credit card!

RE:
What should I do about my dog's (beagle) ear infection?
My dog woke up this morning with a bit of an ear infection. It was just red this morning... I went to school and came back and he had scratched it so much it was pussing and bleeding a little.
I'm a student and don't have the money to spend at the vet unless its a bit of an emergency so...

Being a beagle owner, I'd have to recommend you take the poor pup to the vet. He will not appreciate this pain and it won't go away on its own. After he's all better you should check your dog's ears often, I do it pretty much every day. If it looks a little dirty clean it gently on the OUTSIDE of the ear with a moist cotton swab. Never clean the inner ear. This way you can help stop problems before they start.

Dogs with flappy ears are prone to infections. Sometimes they are like a yeast infection, and or bacterial, which, you need medicine for from the vet. I know, believe me what they are like- nasty, smelly and plain old uncomfortable for the dog. First of all, make sure it is an infection, not just heavy wax/dirt. If it is cleared up, then if you maintain the ears, usually you'll do ok. I clean my dogs ears once a week, and I have 3 huge dogs. You can get an ear wash from the wet, or simply use damp cotton pads, maybe with a LITTLE bit of peroxide mixed with the water- damp-not soaking, and simply wipe the ears our till all the brown gunk is gone. Two of my dogs love it- the other one hates it.Be gentle and be sure to wipe with a dry pad after you are done-too much moisture can restart the whole process. So, if your dog swims, you'll have to do it after that too. A good sign of discomfort -pain-itching and so on, is when the dog constantly shakes her head. Good Luck.

Contrary to popular belief there is a way you can treat your dog's ears at home. First, you need to make sure the ears get cleaned daily. You can use a 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water solution and use a dropper to put it in the ear canal. Hold the head away from you with the ear canal facing up and put the solution in. Then massage the ear canal gently to loosen the wax. Next put a cotton ball in the opening of the ear and tip the head down to drain the fluid and wax onto the cotton. You may have to repeat this a couple of times. The next thing you should do is put a little drop of Colloidal Silver in the ear canal and then wipe the inside of the ear with colloidal silver also. Colloidal Silver is a natural antibiotic/antifungal/antibacterial. You can find it at most GNC stores or at any health food store. Also put a dropper full of Colloidal in your dogs water. Do this procedure daily and in no time the infection will be gone. My dog had an ear infection. The Colloidal took it away in two days. It will also heal the wound.

You must got to the vet. do not wait - the infection will continue to worsen and cost you more money by waiting. Additionally, your dog is in a lot of pain and that will get worse. Your vet will wash his ear and give you a topical cream - it will not cost too much- probably under $50 (my dogs get lots of ear infections). Most vets will do payment plans. tell them that you are a student and need a couple of months to pay it off - I am sure that they will work with you. Dogs are very expensive and you should probably not own one if you cannot even afford a trip to the vet.

This can be an emergency. if it is pussing and all then it is not just a little infection, teh ear needs a deep clean and the ear pads aren't going to do anything. If the infection spreads it can go to the brain and do serious damage so please take you dog to the vets

Don't delay, your dog needs urgent vet care and possibly anti-biotics to get rid of this infection. Hearing is really important to dogs and if you don't seek vet care your pet's hearing could become permanently impaired :(

Take him to the vet! He needs to go, even if you can't afford him. Maybe try to get your parents/family to throw in some money.
My Beagle's name is Duke too!

There is nothing you can do to clear up the infection except to go to the vet and get some ear drops.
