I read in Matthew 2:23 that it was SPOKEN BY THE PROPHETS that "He [Jesus] shall be called a Nazarene." Can you find this in any other writing that existed prior to 4 BCE?

Psalms is not a prophetic book. And pointing me to the largest book in the Bible and telling me it's in there somewhere is not finding the prophecy, it's trying to cover up for religion.

How about finding out where Nazareth was? So far there has not been a location/area that can be identified as Nazareth.

Isaiah 9:1
..."In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan"...

This is the beginning of a Messianic prophecy. Read through verse seven. The town of Nazareth was in this region.

there might be an additional passage, but this is the one that came to mind.

Shalom

Isaiah 11:1
"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots."
Isaiah 11:10
"And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious."

The word "Nazaraeus" is derived from the Hebrew Netser, meaning "branch."

Now, I'm not defending anything. But that is the opinion of most scholars. It is unlikely that Matthew made this one up out of thin air. That kind of would have defeated the purpose, wouldn't it? Matthew made the allusion because of its relation to "Nazareth," as well as because of the explicit reference to the Gentiles in 11:10. He had to demonstrate that a prophet could indeed come from "Galilee of the Gentiles," contrary to the opinions of the day.

I think it's Isaiah ch11v1 - it's a cross reference of Matthew 2:23
I'll go and check....

Just looked up other cross references - Isa 4:2
Revelation 5:5 -- Rev 22:16
Hope this helps...

If you look up biblegateway.com you will find lots of cross references and commentaries for this text - it's really interesting, especially look the Amplified version - there's a better explanation....
