Who is "Americans for Balanced Energy Choices", and why do they get an annual buget from the coal industry of $30,000,000.00?

Check out Issue #936 @ www.rachel.org.

Those of you who don't want "a silent spring" should bookmark this site... lots of well documented info.

Those of you who don't should go read some of the info here in current and back issues so you can get a sense of how poorly your side provides detailed and varifiable information on key issues... sleep well Dr. whats' his name.

Thanks for so many positive responses... and then there is the one. Yes the intention is to continue to draw out the Top Contributor because this issue is too important to have people come here and continue to be dupted by someone with false credentials, that's fraud. Many children come to this site, and we know they are very impressionable. I have been challenged to predict the future to prove to the one... that we have a real problem that humans created. But even our best meterologist can not accuratley predict next weeks weather. There are millions of variables in the prediction models used in the super computers that can only show trends. The trends are then extended without change of varibles to come up with worst case senerios. Numbers do not lie. Global climate change is happening, we know it is related to human activity, and it may be exagerating an exsisting trend. I keep coming back to fight the deniers because we can fix this, and we should, NOW.

I am sure that there are many paid trolls in the global warming sec. Some even are just plain sleazy.as well as ignorant. Along with the hired idiots, there are lots of dummies that didn't learn anything in school. You mentioned in one of your ans. to a global warming skeptic, that maybe 'home schooling' had something to do with the lack of intellect on here. You might be on to something ! What gets me is the myth that awareness of global warming is somehow a money making scam. It's been my experience that the neo-con often accuse someone of something ,that actually is being done by the accusers. Take Larry Craig for example. He was a rabid opponent to gay rights, but he turned out to be a gay who practices anonymous gay sex in public restrooms. So yes it is likely that all the time claiming that global warming is a scam to make money, they are the ones making that money!

Hey Rainbow, I'm glad somebody brought this up.

All I have to say is that it wouldn't be the first time that companies used yahoo message boards to further their business by spreading misinformation. The CEO of Whole Foods actually did the very same thing, except he was anonymously attacking a competitor, trying to lower their stock price so that he could then buy the company at a lower price. Check here for the story:

Maybe Mr. Jello and some of these others are paid for "Americans forBalanced Energy Choices"? All I'm saying is it's happened before!

I find it interesting that when some disagree with the believers, they are quickly 'swift-boated' and muzzled.

You can't attack me on my facts, but you do have a field day with name calling, insults, innuendo and such. I feel like I'm in grade school again.

If you think I'm a paid hack, if you think I'm a home schooled moron, just prove me wrong. Tell me if this winter is going to be warmer or colder than average. Tell me if next year will be warmer or colder than last year, and show me how you came to that conclusion.

Once you do that how could I argue against you anymore? I would be finished here, I wouldn't be able to show my icon here anymore.

So why are you so reluctant to tell me what this winter is going to be like? Or next year? Is it because you can't? So called global warming is only something you accept from faith?

I think this should be an easy task. Global warming is occurring because of co2. We know how much co2 is being placed in the atmosphere because of man, we should know what the temps will be any time in the future.

Just tell us and show us how you came to your conclusion.

Global warming is very similar to the bible
some truths are exaggerated others are belittled or hidden .Mixed with lies.

There are no solutions to some of the real dangers and these are silenced.since the fear of this could undermine governments.

Public attitudes are produced and manipulated ,by the propaganda machine ,

To be able to exploit and control the people instead.

People who advocate reality and 100% truths are exchanged for those who fall in line with the strategy.

Those who care for the Environment are exchanged for those who wish to exploit it .

Nobody is talking about the accelerating factors involved with global Warming .

Or what will happen when the Cold Ocean currents stop .If and when the ice is gone ,

because the effects will be almost instantaneously.

Slaves of the system of
And those of us who are still free to think for ourselves are becoming isolated.

Thanks for the additional evidence! I know that all the energy industries based on the use of fossil or living carbon fuels are like the cigarette companies were and are!

The Greening Earth Society is a public relations organization which, through its published materials, promotes the idea that there is considerable scientific doubt about the climate-warming effect of carbon dioxide. The Society publishes the World Climate Report, a newsletter edited by Patrick Michaels. see--> wikipedia entry for more info.

If certain paticipants on the subject of the environment, and the GW subcategory in particular, are paid by certain industry groups to spread doubt and disinformation at YA, that would be illegal use of YA. YAT would have to investigate the matter and immediately terminate the activities of such participants. I think there is sufficient evidence on certain participants that warrant looking into their activities to determine if they are paid to oppose those of us convinced that the climate science is there to justify amelioration of our energy consumption patterns based on carbon fuels combustion and its uncompensated generation of CO2 ( which is the indubitably is the main molecule responsible for trapping heat in the atmosphere and raising the temperature of the air and oceans).

Dr Hansen is a devoted scientist who has spent a lifetime studying and investigating climate questions, He and many experts have worked to gather the data necessary to the understanding of the atmosphere's compositional changes going back 400,000 yrs. None of these facts matter to the nasty people who inhabit the GW category behaving like trolls rather than trying to debate the issues intelligently. They go around Smearing the efforts of any person who worries about or is concerned about the future of the planet's biosphere which is changing under the stresses of humankind's activities. When I was born, there were 2.5 billion people on the planet. There are now over 6 Billion people on the planet and the way we live has undesirable environmental effects.

The quality of life for all living things is threatened by the GW-Greenhouse Effect causing many adverse climate changes. Only ignorant or selfish people want to ignore the evidence and oppose the efforts of scientists that have determined humankind energy consumption patterns based on carbon combustion is the culprit. We can change all that through conservation, energy-efficiency improvements and, most importantly, changing our harmful behavioral habits that ignore the reality of what's happening to the climates on the planet.

Anyone who wants to keep up with the GW issue can listen to the weekly 1 hour radio program hosted by Steve Kerwin called Living on Earth(LOE.org) on NPR. The program's broadcast's on environmental issues and stories are available as podcast's or MP3 downloads. Next week, Sat 12-15-2007, LOE will be reporting on the BALI Climate Change Conference.

Well, yes, people DO get paid to do that.

In addition to your example, there is also the Greening Earth Society and the ironically-named "junkscience.com", which calls good science "junk" so that junk science pushed by denialists will be accepted by more of the public.

It's a pity that we can't force these people to put their money where their mouths are, so that every penny they have is taken away when the truth about the harm they're doing comes out.

I think so. I remmember months ago Bush was saying it is not a such thing as global-warming...now he is starting anti global warming programs. How smart is he...I hop he is getting paid and isnt that dumb forreal.

If I were the head of a company that had a particular interest in global warming, I could fund whatever side of the debate that I wanted to, and it would not effect the credibility of the scientist's work.

The fact of the matter is this: everyone who researches global warming gets paid for their work. This "paid-by-big-oil" argument is the oldest and saddest in the book. I could just as easily say that Al Gore and Co. are "paid-by-big-tree-huggers," and I would be just as right, but I prefer to discredit the arguments, rather than the scientists who make them.

(By the way, I do read "info in current and back issues," and the sense that I've gotten is the strange way in which the alarmists always seem to hush up and disregard all of the evidence being put out that is not in perfect harmony with what they say. If it doesn't comply, then it's automatically invalid and biased.)
