I think that it changes as you transcend your way closer to God. You may not feel temptation or your definition of the interplay of desire and your reaction to it will change. Perhaps there is even a level where you no longer want the trappings of the flesh. Temptation does seem like it serves a purpose much like shadows help us define where there is light.

To reach that point we must understand the cause of the temptation, which emotion is causing it, which thought or idea, belief or perception is creating it? Grab that emotion hold it with the hands of our mind and learn to recognise the event, experience or words that caused it, understand the effects it has had on our life by looking for connections to our current situation. The desire to do what is right is what we learn to hold on to. All the other temptations, one can let them go.

Do or do not there is no try. But you say “I try all the time” not really.

When I act, I am not trying I am doing what I think is right or I am doing what I think is wrong or I chose to do without thought of the consequences. I chose to do what I think is right, If I find out it was wrong from the later effects of my action I have learnt a lesson. If I see a positive effect I know I am growing in wisdom. Intention to do what is right will help us reach a point in life where we are beyond the temptation that allows fear, greed and selfishness to control us.

Temptation to actively do what is right will grow within as we see just how wonderful our life is and comes to be.

Purpose of it? Balance and understanding. Just like we need to know the dark to see the light.

Temptation is such a subjective thing. What is a horrible temptation for one just seems silly to another. I have a friend who has a weight issue. He describes to me his torture over the "Holy Hamburger". I am constantly reminding him it's not a moral issue, it's food. I'm not sure that temptation is the problem as much as the individuals obsessions & subconscious belief that somehow the thing that they are obscessed with can somehow "save" them. For me, I take a middle way, no thing is really illegal, yet I do not want to create a god for myself out of anything that is a appetite either. When I think I am tempted 2 ideas come into my tiny little brain: 1. Why suddenly am I feeling as if I am tempted? Why has the thing been raised to such a level in my thinking that I am now labeling it bad & feeling guilty for the desire. 2. Temptation is always an opportunity to choose again.
I really don't buy into the whole good & bad thing, yet I do think that we can be come so obsessed with something it becomes a stumbling point. Yet, the error is our perception of the thing, not the thing itself.
Blessings.

The concept of 'temptation' is rooted in guilt. That there is a temptation to do something that you know is wrong or immoral. When you lose to this temptation you feel guilty and repent. Then you vow not to do it again and once again go back to doing the very thing you vowed not to do. So you feel guilty even more and you repent even more. It is a never ending cycle. I think the key is to try and develop the inner strength to win over your temptations. Not relying on someone else to help you. How can you develop this strength? Start by identifying what you are doing that is considered wrong. Is it being hurtful to others? Are you basing your actions on some moral values that are grounded in reasonable expectations? For instance, sex is NOT wrong per se but when you do it just for your egotistic purposes then I think you are. Think of what your temptation is about. Are you tempted to hurt others? Are you tempted to hurt yourself? (Doing drugs etc). Develop your inner resolve NOT to hurt others or yourself. Start with small steps.

Thank you for your question. I hope you can overcome your problems.

Hi Sunman, I know this is the spiritual page and you may be asking from a spiritual perspective, yet I am a little humored by this question, for living with temptation is a perfectly natural and ok thing to experience. I do not separate myself into parts, so being tempted gives me an opportunity to choose. In choosing I become more of myself through the living with myself, and some temptations bring fabulous experiences, thrills even, whilst others may not be so good for me. I do my best with what I have before me at any given moment. I consciously choose to be aware of my behaviors and choose to be the moderate that I may seem to be, outwardly. What does tempt me, gets my intuition to work on it, and I quite like my life as a result. I am a spiritual, aware being in a body and I create balance in my life.......in ways I choose for myself.

"The Point"

The point you must reach is very small. This point is so small it is impossible to see with the human eye. As a matter of fact it can be only seen with the "Eye of Wisdom" some call this the "Kursi" or the "Third Eye". When one finds this very small point, it takes "Balance" to keep from falling off of it, back into the "Ocean or State of Illusion". "Balance" within ones life is the only known cure for a dark quality within the life of man known as "Temptation".

** - Find that small point, use the "Eye of Wisdom", acquire that "Perfect Balance", and one will rule over the rascal of all rascals known to human beings as "Temptation".

This is an arduous task, yet I know you will be victorious!

I nevertheless do no longer think of we are able to comprehend the Holy Trinity. that does no longer mean we ought to continuously supply up. It in uncomplicated terms ability that the Trinity is an inexhaustable secret to be pondered upon. I hate to be a stickler, yet i do no longer think of you have gotten it quite good. you say ''one nature.'' One nature may well be one will. that would desire to be to disclaim that Christ has the two a human and divine nature, which may well be an historical heresy spoke of as Monothelitism. don't get me incorrect even with the undeniable fact that... i do no longer mean it in a condemning style of way. I merely think of that perhaps you ought to locate a different term different than ''nature.'' it is quite uncomplicated to slip into heresy while describing the Holy Trinity, which that's maximum suitable to no longer clarify those issues in our very own words. i might inspire you to proceed thinking this, yet attempt to no longer be too hasty on your factors, and perhaps look over the Athanasian Creed some extra circumstances. nevertheless, i'm going to offer you a celebrity and a pat on the returned to your efforts. you have carried out a miles extra powerful activity with your rationalization than i'm going to have. Peace, Drew playstation : to those that say the be conscious ''Trinity'' is not any stumbled on interior the Bible (and there will be some), it is not proper notwithstanding if that's or no longer. The Bible improve into canonized around Trinitarian doctrine, that's why the assumption is there, notwithstanding if we don't care to correctly known it. St. Athanasius and St. Nicolas (sure, Santa Claus) defined the Trinity extra for sure in line with Bishop Arius, who taught that Jesus improve into merely ''a stable guy.''

Even Jesus was tempted by Satan, so we can never
reach a point where we wouldn't be tempted. But, we
can overcome the temptation if we recognize it and
then turn out backs on it, with help from our Christian
standards. God will bless and help those who do this,
as He's been there and done that.
