Try to study the law of attraction. The problem is that your mind is concentrating on the negative bringing more negative situations or thoughts. If you are always expecting the worst then that is what you will attract. If your friends are thinking you are pessimistic that is probably what is in your subconscious. Take the observations of others and make some changes. If you hate it and you believe that you can not stop then you will continue to attract more. Henry Ford says it best, "Whether You Think You Can or Can't, You're Right" I hope this will help.

you are not alone friend, a lot of people are pessimistic. When you were born you have the tendency to be pessimistic already. Positive thinking will really help you, and if you are a Christian read the Bible specially in the Book of Psalms. If you are a Muslim reading the Koran will also help a lot. Good luck may you find happiness and strength reading any of the above books. The Almighty is up always watching us.

You don't state your age so I'll take some guesses that you are relatively young.

You have several problems to consider, all related, not all of them sure to be part of the mix.

1. Younger people haven't as many life experiences, good or bad, as older people and therefore often feel that inexperience as a negative thing. But what you have done is what you have done. Live with it and realize that as time goes on, you will gain more expeirence.

2. Pessimism and depression go hand in hand. But they are often two sides of the same coin. Because you are depressed, you expect more negativity. Because you expect bad things, you become depressed. It is a dangerous - and usually unfounded - spiral.

3. You try to think positive but you can't. I remind you of those immortal words of ... Yoda. "There is no 'try.' There is just 'do.'" But thinking positive thoughts can be tough if you aren't used to it.

I went through some really nasty times that were quite depressing and left me very pessimistic. The key to getting out is to just go on living. When you are with friends, concentrate on the good vibes. When you hear good music, let it flow through you. When you see beauty in nature, let it inspire you. You see, depression prevents you from appreciating the good times.

So the trick is - don't think good thoughts. Don't think bad thoughts. Just enjoy the moments without passing judgement on it. It is often hard to force your mind to stop thinking negative thoughts. So instead, go half way. Force yourself to not pre-judge the moment, good OR bad.

Once you can do that, you have a chance to improve. Here's how. Once you can eliminate the negative thoughts and stay in "neutral" you can ask yourself: "Why am I depressed?"

Now here is the hardest part. Don't take "I don't know" for an answer. If you can stay in mental neutral, you can face bad memories, bad feelings, bad thoughts. In "neutral" those things cannot hurt you. You can look at them dispassionately and see them for what they really are.

I'm not going to guess why you are depressed. I'm going to say that you can work your way out of depression - if you want to. Or you can wallow in being a victim for the rest of your life. There is no need to be a perpetual victim. Only a desire to be one. You are there because you want to be there. So ... what do you get out of it?

And... if you can figure that out, you can begin to change your behavior. I won't like. It ain't easy. Took me five years after my Mom died before my head was back together, and yes I was depressed. But it was possible to go on. And whatever your reason, it will be possible to just go on. If you want to.
