My friend, a divorced mom, has two preteen daughters. She is very depressed not having enough money this year due to health problems, to buy Christmas for her girls. I would like to find out what organizations I could contact that would donate a gift to the girls. Would someone please list some places to start with? Thank you for taking time to help me with this.

We may realize that gifts are not important, but it doesn't keep her from feeling depressed that her daughters will not have gifts. Have a heart.

This mother does not expect her girls to have lavish gifts either, nor do the girls expect that type of gift.

try local charities, and churches. The salvation army may be able to help with gifts and also a food basket to help them have a nice Christmas dinner.

I understand your situation and my heart goes out to you and your friend. When I was a child, we did not have money for Christmas gifts and my sister and I would just have to be happy with what we recieved - and usually we were considering we realized that our single mother had no money and could barely put food on the table.
A few organizations that could probably help would be:
- The Salvation Army
- The Angel Tree
- The school that the girls go to - we received Christmas gifts from our schools a few years in a row b/c we were low on $$$
- Wal-Mart could possibly help
Just visit local stores and ask around. Call your local Department of Social Services and they may be able to give you a lost of places that would be more than glad to help out in your situation.
As for the peope that were rude and ugly about "Christmas gifts not meaning much" and the people that "didn't have a heart" - you should be ashamed of yourselves. If you were in this situation where you or your own cihldren didn't get any Christmas gifts, you would heartbroken as well. How horrible that you say such hateful words to someone who only wants a few children to be happy!

I'm not sure what she can do for Christmas gifts. But may I tell you of an organization that has helped me. FREECYCLE.ORG. Basically you sign up in your community online and people offer goods that they no longer want for free. Clothes, kitchen supplies, basically anything that they find is still good but don't want to throw out.

I agree. Contact local charities. Here in Texas it is called Good Fellows. Even try local churches. I am sorry for your friend. Been there, done that. Hope this helps.

You need to look at local charities. Most of them in my community have signed up everyone they can take. The YWCA and Salvation army help as does churches.

Depending on how old the girls are, why don't you try calling your local firestation. They usually collect toys for the needy. Good luck! You are a wonderful friend for trying to help your friend's children.

Catholic Charities. You don't have to be Catholic or religious. Call your local parish or look it up on the internet. They will help make Christmas brighter.
