Contrary to popular belief, it can be quite healthy to lose a pound a day. I'll admit, many people wouldn't find it possible because of a slow metabolism or low body weight, but for someone with a lot to lose who starts a good, consistant diet it could almost be expected. Someone who didn't have a lot to lose could also accomplish this quite easily, if they had a fast metabolism and cut out fattening foods, such as sugar and fat.

1 lb of fat a day is impossible.

rapid weight loss on the scale does not equate to fat loss. when the calories are severely restricted and especially the carb intake the body will use all available stores of glycogen in the body. the body stores water to metabolize glycogen and excretes it after this process. there is only one way that stored fats in the body are removed in this is when they are converted to the cellular energy source ATP. the body will only utilize so much ATP in a 24 hr period regardless of the diet or level of activity. this is why fat loss is so slow, this is how the body protects it's fat stores but not allowing them to be rapidly depleted. this is how human biology works and nothing will change this process.
