developed a strong desire for wine------Particularly a fine red Merlot I have been drinking lately. It all started innocently enough. About 3 weeks ago, I was trying to develop his social skills by making him appreciate some of the finer things in life---to broaden his horizons. Anyway---I was attempting to teach him to enjoy opera, which never really panned out. Then one day, while I was enjoying a lovely bottle of Merlot, I decided to let him sniff the cork. He sniffed it for a few minutes, then put it in his mouth and walked away. He started chewing it, but since I was going to consume the whole bottle...no big deal. He got into the habit of chewing the corks, and then one day I put a little wine in his doggy dish. Big mistake! He drank it in a flash and wanted more. Now he drinks large quantities of it and actually growls when I won't give him any, baring his considerable teeth. I feel intimidated. How do I get this to stop???

Wine come on that crap taste nasty. I would try him on some nice Bourbon. So the Opera didn't beat out the Christmas songs huh, I can't blame him on that one.

LMAO obviously most of these people don't know your beloved Rory, and wouldn't know a joke if it smacked them upside the head.

Hi, my name is Rory, I'm a beloved Great Dane, and I'm addicted to wine, can I please skip the first twelve rules and go right back to the wine.

wean him off it, a little at a time, or don't let him sit in the room while you drink it. I used to share all kinds of things with my dog but some things are probably not a good idea, esp since he is getting addicted to it. Try some grape juice or some other juice he might like it just as much or even more, I'm sure he won't be too picky,,unless he developed an addiction but I don't know about dogs and addiction....weaning would be the only idea

Wine is for people not dogs, but if you wish to kill your dog thats your choice, but not right,
Stand between your dog and the glass of wine, and say No , point your finger at him, and be stern,
Or drink in a room alone and put the dog into your bedroom, if you cannt control your bad habits

Wow.... here I am mourning the loss of my dog whom I loved with all my heart and it was something that was out of my hands, and your slowly killing yours.

If alcohol is not good for people, why would you even give it to a dog? Especially a great dane...large dogs get enough problems why would you add on top of it?

Ill pray for your poor dog to get a better home.

You made the same mistake my father made with his dog. ONE you shouldn't share something with your dog thats not even good for you. TWO continuing to supply the dog. STOP giving the poor thing wine before you kill him. Even if he growls try to remember that your the owner and your dog only wants it because he sees you drinking it. How about evaluating YOUR reasons for drinking and then stop. If he dosen't see it 'Out of sight, out of mind'.

I think that your only hope to get him to stop would be to turn yourself in for animal cruelty. Perhaps he'll feel really guilty and stop; maybe he'll even buy you some opera tickets.
