well i know it i drive to Canada i don't need a passport till the summer of 08 but coming back into the states do still need a passport. if so why ? it doesn't make sense to allow u in Canada with a id and birth certificate but coming back to the states u need a passport

No reason, except for security concerns. The rules on going to/from Canada are changing.

You could check the State Department website for info about what is needed to go between US and Canada.

Hi, If I were you, I would go to the nearest passport issuing office (I assume you are from US) 'n apply for a passport Do not try to make things complicated for yourself Hope you have a nice trip

I think you're fine. Currently, Americans entering by land or sea must present evidence of their U.S. Citizenship at the U.S. Port-of-Entry. This evidence can be a U.S. Passport (either valid or expired), a U.S. Birth Certificate, or a Naturalization Certificate. If your evidence of U.S. Citizenship does not have your photo (e.g., a birth certificate), you must present current photo ID showing that it is yours.
