My cholesterol isn't super high. I don't need medication or anything, but my physician mentioned that it's high enough to consider preventative measures.

Being that I've been healthy too long to come to terms with these irritating sorts of problems, what action xcan I take, other than cutting excess cheese and fatty meats from my diet (and eating Cheerios in the morning- It says that is cuts cholesterol right on the box!!!)

Fiber!! Lots of fiber! Whole wheat, bran, veggies and fruits! Dont drink/smoke/sit on your butt. And remember - with a high fiber diet you have to drink lots of water otherwise you will be constipated.

The non-soluble fiber actually scrapes the inside of your vessels, cleaning them.

Also, lots of Omega 3 oils (fish, soy, misou, avacado) Especially Wild Salmon. Cruciferous vegetables (Broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts) to raise your HDL.

You have 2 kinds of cholesterol - HDL and LDL. LDL is the bad guy. He clogs up your arteries. You want that number low. (Remember - "L" for Lethal)

HDL is the good guy, he takes those fat deposits made by LDL and carries them away to be excreted out of the body. Omega 3's raise HDL. Monounsaturated fats are good. Saturated and Trans fats are dangerous. Eat your fish 3 x week and eat a high fiber cereal (higher than Cheerios) every day. (Fiber One, Shredded Wheat, or Raisin Bran - Bran Flakes or ALL Bran if you can stomach it)

Cereals That Lower Cholesterol

oatmeal works better than cheerios, be sure to use non-fat milk. Exercise does indeed help in balancing cholesterol, it increases HDL (good cholesterol) and decreases LDL (bad cholesterol) And there is a supplement called Co-Enzyme Q-10, available at most places that sell supplements, that will also help to reduce your cholesterol naturally.

Oatmeal is another helper with cholesterol cutting. Mix that with your cheerios meals and try to include whole grains like Stone Ground Wheat Bread. Actually, now that I come to think of it, Most hot cereals--grits and cream of wheat are good sources for losing cholesterol. Good luck, A Fellow Struggler.

The previous respondent is correct. Oatmeal is a great way to reduce cholesterol. You can also stick with whole grain breads of any kind and you will be better off. Lessen you intake of beef, pork and chicken and stick to fish. It will drop very nicely for you. :)

Any whole grains. Eat oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brown rice, etc. And cut your sugar and white starch intake - there's evidence that those things raise your cholesterol.

Dried oat meal, fruits ( organic), and celery. Celery creates negative calories. Which means it actually helps you lose calories as it pass through your intestine. 99% of it cannot be digested. Unlike other greens which help push "waste" out becusase of their indigestable celluar wall. Celery actually causes more energy to be spent simply by eating it.

Exercising is always very good. Did you know jump roping for ten minutes is amost the quilavalent to running a mile.
