There are people in the companies whos job it is to name the colors. I did not believe there was a job like that until I met them.

do you mean the names for the ranges of paints or the names of the colors? the range names are decided by the company and the name of the colors are the same in all companys like cadmium red pale hue, burnt umber, raw sienna etc.

Most paints are named after whatever they are made of.......for instance Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Yellow, or Cadmium Barium Red, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, ad infinitum
