Our workforce is of about 30 guys organised into crews on different trucks doing removal/packing work plus all the office staff etc... The party is at a local venue. With partners, I guess there'll be around 100-120 people.
Only thing is, there's a 20-something year old lad who works for the company who has told me he's bringing a knife to the party in case anyone should 'try & start anything' or 'have a go'.

Should I tell someone else about this in advance?

Yes. Tell his supervisor about his plans.

If your party includes alcoholic beverages that guy with a knife all boozed up would not be a good mix.

I'd be pissed. How'd he feel if your male friend brought you to a cool x-mas party every year while he sat home? It's not nice & he should be more considerate of your feelings, as I'm sure you would. Your his girl, you come first. He's your man, he comes first. Tell him you can't change how you feel about it, it bothers you and you'd like him to not go this year. She gets invited to cool parties, I'm sure she can find a different date without a gf.

I would think that would depend on the young man...is he a trouble maker, or has he been having trouble with others? Just because a person wants to be able to defend themselves and others doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. The only thing that raises my concerns about the young man is the fact he is talking about it at all. I have a concealed carry permit, and if I were at your party, my glock would be there too, however, you nor anyone else would know about it with the exception of my wife. So I guess my responce would be, yes I would say something just beause he did.

I would post a letter to the organiser, unsigned of course, alerting them to this potential problem. This way you'll not be labelled as a blabbermouth whilst at the same time helping to keep the peace. It is an offence to carry a weapon anyway especially with the intent of using it. You'll not have to speak to anyone else about this though as fingers could be pointed.

Hope this helps and hope the party goes well, with no trouble. Have a nice weekend. ;) x

You know..what an awful thing to say to you. I carry a knife with me at all times...and I never tell anyone about it. I am actually thinking about getting a small gun and carrying it with me. But...I would never tell anyone that I carry a weapon EVER. That kind of defeats the purpose.

You could report it...but then...you may get reprisal if you are found out to be the one who talked. And you could be quiet...but if something does happen..you would feel really bad.

I think that things will turn out ok..and don't worry about it. You can report it...anonymously...but I really don't think anything will happen at this party. It is just a young kid acting tough...sounds like he is kind of insecure.

Just let it go..and don't worry about it. Trust that there are Angels watching out everyone and you will be fine.

some people carry a knife for protection i guess (i dont). but yeah there always gonna be some weirdo that thinks people are out to get him so he does something stupid. since theres probably gonna be drinking going on that could be a very bad situation. 9 times outta 10 they dont do anything but why take the chance? tell him not to take the knife with him and if he insists, tell somebody!

Yes! Definitely tell someone in authority. That is the right thing to do. Worst case scenario, he has a couple too many pints and starts something himself. You could actually save lives if you go with your gut instinct to inform management of this situation ahead of time.

Tell the boss of this person AND the party organizer and let them know you told the other. Then it is in their hands. I'd avoid this "lad" in the future and say you do not associate with known knife carriers.

Yes, definitely. You should tell your boss or the manager at the venue that there might be trouble. It sounds to me like if anybody's gonna "try and start anything" it'll be that kid. If he gets some alcohol in him I'd be quite scared. In fact, you might think about not going to the party yourself.

Removal Firm...big strong guys? Mention it to one of the older sensible guys and he'll find a discreet way round it. The kids job shouldn't be put in jeopardy over a silly comment made to impress.
