I know when I started trying to wear hijab, I wasn't ready to do it all at once. I started slowly, first with a head covering and all skin covered and then I moved to a proper scarf over the chest. Later, I gave up on pants altogether and moved to skirts and then to strictly jilbabs. Finally, I began wearing niqab with long scarves or khimars. Altogether, my "transformation" took about 3 years. If someone had told me then that I would be later dressed as I am now, I wouldn't have believed it.
My point is, go ahead and get started at whatever level you feel comfortable and, inshallah, your practice will improve with time. The biggest step emotionally is the scarf because in our current society that is what differentiates you the most. So if you can get past that, the other steps will come along easier.
This link outlines the requirements of the hijab.

I have heard many mixed answers on this. Some say women are not allowed to wear pants at all and others say it is permissable. I think the biggest concern is that pants are generally considered more manly, although men didn't always wear them either, and the fact that pants tend to form more to the body, which we are not supposed to specifically show our curves. So far the most agreed upon answer I have gotten is that they are permissable but they must be loose around the legs and bottom, but not so much that they are falling off, and that you should wear a long, loose shirt to better hide the bottom where the pants might fit more closely. If you have many doubts though its better to just stick to skirts. Keep asking around though on different sites and see all the answers you get and how they compare. As for the rest dealing with clothing, long sleeves, loose as to not show off our curves, no see through fabrics, pants or skirts should be down to the ankles, no sandals.

wa alaikum salam dear sister
I am very happy to hear you are going to put on hijab. From my understanding any kind of pants are haram to wear outside, but some say they are ok. Jilbabs are the best to wear, they cover everything. And you can wear jeans underneath if you like. Other wise long skirts and loose fitting long sleeve shirts work well to.
May Allah help you though this transition. Ameen

It is haraam to wear jeans. Jeans were originally for men for working purposes. We should not resemble men in our dress. However, main stream culture has changed this and since the 50's it has been acceptable for women to wear jeans in western culture. For the last 20 years or so jeans have migrated their way into eastern countries. This does not mean it is acceptable in Islam.
As for wearing shirts, you should make sure that the shirt comes high enough to your neck so that it does not show any cleavage just in case your scarf moves. Make sure the sleeves are long enough or you can buy under sleeves which can cover a portion of your arm. All hijab clothing should be of a thick material so not to show the curves of your body or if you can see through it, it would defeat the purpose of hijab..
Inshallah you will find what is right in your heart.

You can wear jeans but they are really tight and show your figure so I wouldn't recommend wearing them. Wear loose pants or better yet buy an Abaya. You can buy the hijab, Abaya, and Niqab @ this website: http://www.desertstore.com . Yes you have to wear Niqab when going outside according to the strong Hadiths which all Muslims are required to follow as well as the Qur'an. Make sure your hijab is long enough to cover your entire head and neck. Also if you wear t-shirts then put on some elbow length gloves and sleeves that go over the gloves to cover your arms. If you raise your hand in class with the Abaya on then sleeve on the Abaya might fall back exposing your arm to non mahram men. So it's best if you buy the elbow length gloves and sleeves so you are protecting your modesty and beauty from strange men you are not related to by blood. Also if you have male cousins then you have to cover up in front of them as well because in Islam you can marry your cousins. You can wear "Western clothing" under the Abaya.

Walikumaslam,
Mashallah you are going to wear hijab. Good work.
You can wear every cloth, it can be jeans or skirt or any cloth but that should not be so thin that your body can be seen, it should not be tight that your figure of body can be see and your whole body should be covered. I mean it should not be short up to knees, your body should be covered. Hope answer to the question.

Jeans are unacceptable if you want to know the truth. All pants are not acceptable but the question is are you ready to give them up for Allah's sake?
it is better to wear long skirts, there are jean skirts to...abayas and scarves. To begin with you could wear long loose shirts first with your jeans or pants...then slowly start wearing abayas and skirts InshaAllaah.
InshaAllaah read about the hijab and its requirements.
It is a commitment and it will need lots of patience and getting used to,,but once you get used to it, it will be part of you.
**muslima those skirts are expensive 45 dollars!!
Lord have mercy...where I live in Minneapolis we have exact skirts on that website for 20 bucks. and jeans skirts too for 20 bucks. we have 2 somali malls with mini shops that sell muslim womens clothing and they are pretty cheap.
lolz...muslima I'm with your mom!:)

eh, idk abt them being totally unacceptable...but i try to wear skirts when possible, cuz if ur wearing jeans they are most likely showing ur attractive curves, loll...i get long skirts and pretty long sleeved shirts that are loose too, and it works out fine =)
if u do wear jeans, wear loose ones OR wear a loose shirt that covers ur booty (thats wut i do when i cant stand wearing a skirt anymore)...good luck with wearing the hijab =)
oh if ur interested in wearing a jilbab, they have some rly cool ones here: http://www.thehijabshop.com/jilbabs/index.php?pcode=JILSR-JCA01BLK
