I think you will understand it better if you read the full Lord Bacon quote as it appears in "The Medical and Surgical Reporter," Published 1894, Original from Harvard University.

"Read not to contradict and refute. Nor to believe and take for granted, nor to find talk and discourse, but to weigh and consider. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; that is some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read attentively, and some to be read wholly and with diligence and attention."

Means some books are not that great, have no, or little value in real life.
And others
Have knowledge that is of value, and can help ou, but it is nothing complex and deep that actually tries to pry apart how things work, and how you can change things by altering them.
And lastly, some that DO do what I said above, complex, and meaningful helpful valuble concepts that may be hard to understand to some, or may not, but will take time to actually master or understand fully. because them ind and life are not any less things to master then a skill, and perhaps more so.

But do you believe who you are reading? test it yourself.
and think.
not all philosiphers are right on all they speak of. maybe some of their writings, but not usually all.

Reft~
It refferes to the value and need of each book group reffered to.

It means that some books are quick, light reads.. some give a little bit of thought and idea outside the basics.. and some really leave you thinking and wondering, and give you lessons that can apply to your life and the real world.

hope this helps :)

Its about life, Some things only last so long and only can. Others are meant to last longer. Some are meant to be disliked and pushed to the side and ignored.
