I took my own daughter in jail four times myself due to warrants being issued for her arrest. I also posted her bonds to get her out. The last time she was arrested was in another state. I again posted her bond, brought her back to Texas, helped her get a good job and took her back into our home. I helped her make arrangements with the courts to pay her fines and restitution on hot checks. A couple of months later the bondsman called to inform me she wasn't meeting her obligations with the court and her bond was being revoked--they wanted the money, $4,000 or her. I took her back to Arkansas, turned her over to the bondsman and went back to Texas. Didn't see or talk to her for almost six years after that except to fight her for custody of my granddaughter who I and my wife have raised since birth.
I was a Deputy Sheriff during all that time.
My answer is yes.

yes, I would. It would hurt me to do so, but I defiantly would do it. Contact a lawyer, if you can't afford one go to a public defender with your child in tow if they are willing. If they aren't just turn them in. You did not say how old your child is, but no matter what their age is let them know that while you do not approve of their actions and need to face the consequences of what they did, it does not change the way you feel about them and that you still love them and will be there for them.
I was the victim of an attempted molestation when I was 14 yrs old, nobody ever did anything about it. It left me feeling scared, lonely, depressed, and worthless. Would you want to feel that way? What if it were the other way around and happened to one of your loved ones, you, or a friend of yours? How would you feel if nothing was done about it?

Raping a young child, I would report even my son, because there is no excuse for such reprehensible behavior. None.
Raping a woman, assuming there is no doubt that it could in any possible way be a he said/she said type of situation, beyond any doubt in my mind that it could at all be possibly a misunderstanding or anything like that, I would have to report him.

I would contact the family lawyer and then have him go with me and my child to the police station. That way you would be assuring your child your support up front but yet you are setting an example that everyone pays for their bad choices.
Then if they get probation find a counselor that works with children and get them help.

Yes, if I knew my child had comitted a crime, I would turn them in. People need to be held responsible for the crimes they commit and if you know your child did it, you are comitting a crime by not coming forward.

If there was no doubt in my mind he was guilty of a violent crime I would have to turn him in. I wouldnt be able to live with myself if he hurt someone else.

Absolutely. I'd place him under citizen's arrest myself if it was murder or rape.

I'd try to provide him emotional support through the process, but if I flat-out KNEW he did it...he's going down.

Yes - I would help them turn themselves in.
It is safer for them and for the arresting Officers.
