One of the duties of a Platoon Sergeant is to do re-enlistment interviews with his troops.
I always told them that some can, some can't some should and some shouldn't. Then I would explain which catagory they fell into.
Everyone cannot nor should not make the military a career. It is a difficult life though a rewarding one. I am glad I had a good woman to support me.
And yes I would do it all over again.

What is so unusual about a marine leaving after 4 years? They joined, they served, they were discharged.
They decided a career in the Marines were not for them, still they deserve a lot of credit. They served honorably and didn't want to get out when the going got a little rough.Do not think anything less about them.

It's common in all branches, not just the Marines. It's a personal choice.
My hubby is a career Marine. He's been in over 8 years and re-enlisted a few months ago.

while you're youthful and single with none dependents, the pay isn't undesirable. you purely make approximately 1339 a month to initiate yet your housing and maximum of your expenditures are coated. although, in case you attempt to calculate that salary into an hourly volume, that's undesirable. although, you do get medical and dental advantages and you gets the GI invoice after your enlistment. The GI invoice provide you approximately 10,000 money a year classes and approximately 1443 a month tax unfastened uncomplicated allowance for housing. which ability you've near to one hundred,000 income advantages without you having to maintain a lot. you does not have the means to maintain for faculty working a civilian job on minimum salary. to boot, you could participate interior the armed forces's thrift mark downs plan. in case you maintain you cash and use your GI invoice you will make money on the deal. If although, you blow all you cash and don't use your GI invoice you will lose money on it. One concept, the Marine Corps is slow to sell so over the era of a 4 year enlistment a soldier probable makes extra advantageous than a Marine. it is likewise takes longer interior the Air stress than interior the army. So while you're taking a inspect a 4 year block somewhat than only year by utilising year, i'm keen to be that a soldier makes extra.

Being a Marine is tough, both physically and mentally. So many Marines get tired, or burntout, and leave the service when they ETS.
Many of those, however join other services and make a career as a Soldier or Airman.

I guess they don't want to live their life on the front lines I mean with all respect marines are modern day Spartans and live for war but the thing is most people can't handle that kind of life. I mean most people get messed up in the head after having their first kill so imagine doing that for the rest of your life. So I guess they were young and exited when they joined because like all men they glorify war but when they actually experience it they realize that its not as cool as in the movies, in fact its terrifying and chills you to the bones.

Many people enlist in all branches for a single term, not for a career, and when they complete their tour, they return to their civilian lives as planned.
Btw, until this year, if you were a Marine and wanted to reenlist, you could do so only if there was an opening in your MOS. (http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2007/01/mc.reup1.15/ )

It's the same in all branches of the Military. Kids just do their 4 years so they can get a free college degree. It really pays off though to make it a career, don't let other people throw your perception off.

Not exactly a glamorous lifestyle, and most young men and women use the military to kick start a civilian career by learning skills or trades in their first four years or earn cash for University.
