When two people are truly in love with one another then the word "trouble" is in no way part of the relationship. Are there ups and downs? Absolutely. But when you truly genuinely LIKE your spouse as well as love them, it's all together different.
My husband and I were best friends, he respected me, he cherished me. We loved being together -- doing anything. We had fun just being silly. We could make a game of going grocery shopping together and have a ball together.
I believe the #1 mistake people make is that they don't ever look at the person they are marrying and ask they question "Is this person my best friend?" Does this person honestly and truly cherish me? Does this person really want to help bring out the best in me?
Do I respect and cherish him/her? Do I want to bring out the best in him/her?
There also has to be the respect of eachother's opinions. Just because two people get married does not mean that they are going to have the exact same opinion on every single topic in life. You have to respect eachother's opinions in your discussions. A difference of opinion and speaking passionately does not mean it's a fight. People do have a tendancy to raise their voice when they are speaking passionately about something -- don't let that make you think it's a fight --- speaking passionately -- both of you and listen -- really listen to the passion both of you have in your opinions and agree that although you don't agree with eachother, you respect eacother's opinion.
I never doubted how much my husband cherished me and I cherished him. Everyone around saw how we each lit up when the other walked into the room -- everyone commented how deep our love for eachother showed in how we treated and spoke with eachother. How much we truly liked eachother and were best of friends.
When you can look at the person across from you and deep deep down in your heart such an overwhelming feeling that you cannot explain and all you want is to take care of this person, call this person and share your every low and every high -- when you look into that person's eyes and feel his/her love radiate through them and deep deep inside you can feel that love so strong that it can bring you to tears, then you know that you are with your soulmate. And real men do cry.

i think it's your experience that makes it worthwhile or not. If your kicked around by bad experiences, It makes it harder to open up , to be exposing your heart to the possibility of another heart break. i got used a couple times. it was not good for your head or heart to walk into something very different than you thought it was. You get a hard shell that may make someone feel you aren't interested and gone before you figure it out. Yes it ultimately is worth it but it can be a rocky road getting to that point
