I have to tell the man I love that I can no longer be friends with him. How do I do this? What do I say? The long and the short of it is that I went out with a guy I had been friends with for a year first, we only went out a few times before I ended it because I was afraid of letting him in on my personal issues. We remained very good friends and to this day, we talk on a daily basis over the net. I was at his place for a party back in October, which is around the time I realized just how in love with him I truly was, but it was too late because he had moved on and is seeing someone he loves. I told him how I felt about him and he said that for now we should just be friends. I tried just being his friend. I tried very hard. It's just too difficult to be his friend right now. I can't talk to him daily, knowing that friends is all we are. Therefore, I have decided that while I would still like to keep in touch from time to time, I don't think it is good for us to be so close.

Don't bother saying it at all. You pulled away from him out of fear, and he still hung in there with you in a friend capacity. Now the tables have turned, and he's asking you to be content with friendship for now. Yes, it's difficult in view of how you now feel, but that must have been similar to how he felt when you left him, right? So hang in there for awhile. Besides, you just hit him with this new revelation...it may have an impact on him, but you need to wait for the reaction. Good luck to you.
