Excellent question! Wayne Grudem the author of "Systematic Theology" states that sin is "any failure to conform to the moral law of God in act, attitude, or nature." That is a basic view of most evangelicals today. However, sin is (to me) a dichotomy. It is both personal and public. Meaning, that people sin which is at its heart is a personal willingness to defy the moral code that God has place before us. It is also public that people often share the same sin patterns (bad stewardships with finances, sexual issues, greed, selfishness...you know, the usual stuff). I see the 10 commandments as a basic outline for people; something to be followed, but it's not exhaustive. See: Holiness Code for more info.
As to your question, yes I do sin. A better question you should be asking is "is it a sin to do something that does not glorify God?"

i base it on the 10 commandments and the word of God (the Bible).
We are born into sin. I have a 4 year old and i can already see this. I didnt teach her certain things (to lie, perhaps, or to be disobedient) it just comes naturally. The person who posted that says they dont sin is blinded.
He cant say hes never told lie (including childhood), had a lustful thought of someone other than a spouse)etc... he lies about not sinning, therefore committing sin!!
We live in a sinful world, which is why we need Jesus, the sinless Savior who died in OUR place. Sin deserves hell, and because of Jesus, those who admit they sin, and ask for forgiveness, accepting what he did, doesnt have to suffer that punishment.
Thank Jesus!!

The Bible definition of sin is as follows;
The transgression of the law is sin.
If you know to do good and do it not it is sin.
whatsoever is not of faith it is sin.
You see God is so much more holy than we are that a lot of things that we don,t see as sin,he does see as sin.
We all sin. And if we are honest we sin every day. But thanks be to God our sins are already paid for. I know many people will disagree with what I am about to say. But I am going to tell you exactly what the Bible teaches about my sins.
Jesus Christ paid all my sin debt 2000 yrs ago at Calvary. He paid for my past sins,he paid for my present sins and he has already paid for the sins that I will commit in the future. I will never stand before God and be judged as a sinner.Jesus Christ took my place and paid my sin debt. He paid all my sin debt and he paid it forever.

Sin is any action that goes against God and his word. Jesus came and taught that what matters most to God is that we treat each other with love and respect. Humans fall so short when it comes to trying to not sin....We can sin with just a bad thought about someone and this is where Satan prods us on with more bad thoughts and sinful actions begin.

Bible says: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23 So what is this verse really saying?
Sin is not just murder, rape, or robbery. Sin is failing to do things we should and doing those things that we should not. in short, sin is a word that describes anything that fails to meet God's standard pf perfection. Thus, sin is the barrier between you and a satisfying relationship with God. just as light and darkness cannot exist together, neither can God and sin.
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 1 John 3: 4-6
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
1 John 3: 7-9

We all sin everyday, we are imperfect. We sometime commit sin and don't even know it. we commit sins by outright doing something like fornication and sometimes the sin is commited in our mind by our thoughts.

The Bible has many words for "sin". The most common in the NT is "hamartia" in the original language of the NT. It means, "missing the mark".
The TARGET is the 10 Commandments. These tell us the will and demand of God for all people.
NO ONE has kept them all.
Humans break them because we would rather do what we please than what God tells us is good for us and our neighbor.

Even the holiest people still sin.... daily.
We ALL sin... daily.
Edit: I forgot to answer the second part of the question.
A sin is anything that offends God.
Also, the more we become aware of our sins, the more we realize how much we sin, and eventually, we are able to see even the tiniest specks on our soul. (Not to be confused with being overly scrupulous and thinking things are sins when they are not)

sin stems from anger and despair. Desperation and fear. We will sin to save someone's life, to protect our own. For our own selfish gains. there are a millions reason to sin. Humans commit sins because we have free will, that's basically it.
