It's mattered before you were even known to exist.... it actually is important to so many people and is more than you questioning it's virtue! You may not like it, but why ask that question? Spirituality reaches to a deeper place to uplift people and can help to build character. It could help for you to be more understanding of humane, if you use it in the right way.

Since God created people on earth.
Everyone who thinks knows that there is a spiritual world around us. That is why they either seek the one who created them, make up their own spiritual religion, or take so much time trying to convince themselves (and others) that there is no spiritual side of universe.
If they didn't believe in a spiritual side, why would they waste so much time trying to convince others on this website??

Since the Dawn of Man.
The Neanderthals were thought to be spiritual, believing that each person had a totem animal that guided them through life and yes, when they passed away through the afterlife also.

When it's a sign that you are on the narrow way to Heaven and not on the broad way to destruction.
Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. 9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
Matthew 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it...21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

You don't have to be spiritual, you have a choice whether or not you want to be. It only matters if you care about it yourself, not if others do.

? Being spiritual has mattered to millions of people for thousands of years, and still does, whether it matters to you or not.

Matter to whom? It may not matter to you, but to many others it does. It's mattered to me my whole life, in some sense, but it matters to me a whole lot more at this stage of my life.

1 Corinthians 2:10-16 (King James Version)
10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
