I had jury duty which by the way I loved doing it was quite interesting but anyway one day I asked the DA what happens when people don't show up for jury duty and he said nothing because the public wouldn't be very happy if they read in the newspaper that 30 people were arrested today for not showing up for jury duty because it is a waste of resources to go after people.
That is what he said but If I were your mom I would just go most likely she won't even have to serve.
I can't wait to be summoned again

They assume she's home and receives the summon and she's required to show up. If she fails to show and they later gives her trouble, she must prove that she was away when the summon came. A plane ticket or overseas receipt should do. She should be OK then. No law says you must be home ALL the time and forgo all the travel plans to wait for jury duty summon.

Actually one of my associates was just telling me recently that they were called by the court. Apparently they never received the letter but the court called them and told them they had to come. If you don't come to jury duty you can be punished for contempt of court.

It is assumed that she got the summons. If she uses an out of town excuse, she may be asked to provide proof.

If that was the case and she was arrested for failure to respond to the subpoena, she would need to supply proof when she went to court that she was out of the country from such-and-such date through such-and-such, and as long as it was accepted by the court and the dates matched the time in question, she would probably be cleared and her name would be put back into the pool to be chosen again at another time.

They assume she received the letter. If the address, were no good, the court would get the letter back. She'd best show up, they issue arrest warrants to those who skip.

The letter is a legal document sent thru US Mail and it is ASSUMED she received it. If she doesn't respond she will be fined also via US Mail.

In theory they know.

Around here jury duty papers are delivered in person, so they know you got the letter.

If she were in vacation in Europe, why was she charging her credit card in town? Why is she still at work? The government is obviously not that stupid.
