Maybe they ought to build a "Green Monster" like they have in Fenway park, that would take the glare out but like some others have said if they want everybody to be able to watch it run the races at night. Most of the Craftsman truck races are run on Friday night. Just a random thought.

Just wondering what you all do to stop the glare on your ride home. Use the visor? Well that is why they put the tape on the windshield, and get an extra man over the wall to pull tear offs to clear it up. There is too much complaining, and way too much "fixing" going on. It has totally ruined the sport. Now that's not to say that I'm not for the safety improvements, but the glare isn't a major safety issue. The drivers have spotters that tell them to back off if there is a car spinning in front of them. If you wanted to make it perfectly safe then we are gonna end up with a bunch of unmanned remote control cars racing. Just like the ones they used to test the black boxes for the cars.

Snake!! What a super idea, I agree that glare has to be awful, you need to recommend this to Nascar, I actually overheard a driver complaining about the glare out here in calif when they have to put up for it for 50-100 laps until the sun goes down.. Yep, I get it every day in the summer when I leave work, it sucks at 20-40 mph on surface streets and its awful on the freeways out here at 55-65 even with my prescription sunglasses on. Which is probably pretty lame compared to what the drivers are doing at 180+ mph... Great idea, that spa vacation really did you well...

I do completely agree with you as well. Certain tracks already do have billboards strategically placed around the racetrack in order to decrease the glare as much as possible. One good example of this would be California Speedway which has billboards as drivers enter turn 3. Phoenix International Raceway also has grand stands in the way of the sun whenever it sets too low.

AHHH... back to the friendly confines of the NASCAR Groupies!
Feels GOOD!
um, don't they have polarized visors or something? I hear ya, though, It's hell trying to see the exit signs as I motor around the DFW area trying to keep my appointments and all the Wally Worlds stocked with groceries!
Sometimes I wish I had a big fly swatter mounted on the top of my Freightliner that would swoosh those pesky daring four wheelers into a ditch, too!

Hey Bow!!! I hear ya on the glare issue. I was thinking something along the same lines myself. they never used to have that problem, except for the tracks that started in daylight, and ended at night, until they decided to delay the races so that the west coast viewers could watch the race at Noon, like we used to in the Midwest and east coast. Now, we in the Midwest and east coast have to wait till 4 or 5 O'clock to watch a race on the east coast.

About the leaving work thing, I ran a truck locally, so I was working while all of y'all were getting off work. If you think 30-40 in a 4-wheeler is scary, try 65-70 in an 18-wheeler, surrounded by idiots in cars, AND you have glare on the windshield, and bouncing off that 10' long hood!!!!!

Edit - Jen.....NSC windshields ARE made of Lexan. My glasses have plastic lenses as well, and are coated with the Transitions coating that turns them to sunglasses. The problem with that is that it does not stop the glare. Glare is sunlight that is intensified by looking directly into a very well lite area.....ie...where the sun is. In the case of the NSC cars, Transitions windshields might help in direct sunlight, but they are still useless when confronted with glare. you would need something along the lines of a welding helmet lens to be able to see through the glare, but then you wouldn't be able to see the track. The only real way to stop the glare would be to block the cause of the glare totally.

Bow.......42...back at cha'!!

They need to make the windshields out of lexan that has the stuff they use on eye glasses that turn to sunglasses in bright sun. This is applied to plastics for eyeglasses so it could be done to the windshields.
