Pshooooo......
Okay, go your my pictures folder or wherever you have your pictures.
right click on a pic.
choose properties at the bottom.
You get a window. right under the file name in the general tab you get a file type and then under that you have "opens with"
if it says windows picture and fax viewer... it might be borked.
if it says something else in there, you can browse your way back to pic and fax viewer.
if it DOES say pic and fax viewer, try changing that MS paint for lark, and see if they will open in paint. you can always switch back with the same process.
You can also use the open with function in the context (right click) menu of any image. With that you can choose what program to open your file with on a one time basis.

Picture and Fax Viewer seems to be a plugin for Windows Explorer. It doesn't run as a separate process and it used to be a Windows component.
Have a look in Folder Options and click on the View Type tab.
Scroll down to say .jpg and see what default program opens that type of file and change it to whatever program you want to open jpg files.

Open My Documents. Select Tools->Folder options. Select the tab "File types". Scroll down and select JPG. It should say "Opens with Windows Picture and Fax viewer". If not, you can change it back (or choose another program to open your files).
Do the same with all the file extensions you use for pictures.

You could probably find it and re-download it off cnet or windows website. If not, assign jpegs and other images to a different photo program. Open My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types. You'll understand how once you get there.
