Many are being fooled into thinking this is a harmless fantasy like Tarabithia or Cronicles of Narnia. It is VERY far from it. It is written by a British author who is considered on of the most "dangerous" writers of our time. While the movie is tame compared to the books, He has openly stated that it is his hope that children will see the movie, and parents will get the books for them for Christmas, and after reading the books, they will make a clear stand against God. He hopes that one day God will be dead in the minds on children because he calls Christianity a powerful mistake, and an ex-nun character in the movie states so.
The end of the trilogy of books has two characters, a boy and girl who represent Adam and Eve kill God, who they say has made people falsely belive He was the creator of all things.
So, will you and your children be seeing it? As an alternative, there is a small movie calle Noelle that is being raved by Dove Foundation.

Maureen, children understand and think about things more than we realize. Look at how kids want to dress like their favorite super hero after seeing a movie, or use a phrase they here. Kids are influenced more by this stuff than one thinks.
And to another, I udnerstood the books just fine, the author was very open about their content.
If you go to the Compass site, there is even a place where you can go a "meet your daemon". In the movie the alternate reality is made up of the human's daemon side.

Also, Maureen, jus the other night my daughter said, while watching Rudolph, that she doen't want to watch it anymore because it shows someone who is supposedly so nice being so mean. She was talking about Santa being mean to Rudolph because he was different. And you say kids dont know?

No...why would I let my children see something that will lure them away from God. It is a movie that shows that God is old and evil being defeated and dies. That goes against my beliefs, in fact it states the opposite. According to a review on the Internet The author, Philip Pullman, has been described as one of England most vocal atheists. In an interview with the Washington Post a few years ago, Pullman said, "I am trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.”
They call the movie a fantasy but the quote above shows that the author is trying to do more than show a children's fun movie. The review also stated: He said if kids read the book series, they'll find an intense battle between good and evil, where evil wins. “By the end of the series God, who has been depicted as old and evil, is defeated and dies,” McCollum said. The review stated it is this season's biggest and most promoted film. It is amazing to see how much they try to promote the film as a children's fantasy to appear non threatening......BEWARE Test everything that you put into your mind...and be careful what you put into your children's minds. This in not at all a fantasy to be taken lightly. DO NOT BE FOOLED. My five year old son say it best when he sings, "oh be careful little eyes what you see."
Do you want your child to see a movie where evil wins? Don't we have enough in real life. We just had a teenager shoot 8 people in a mall. I don't want my children to see evil as a hero.

No matter what this author said, can you see children sitting down to see this movie and taking it seriously? It is a fantasy movie, with great special affects and a story line that children will love, because they have such an imagination.
Will your children come home and say "Oh, Mum, I wish I hadn't seen that movie because it was evil". Only if a Mum puts anything into their heads, otherwise they will take it like they took Harry Potter movies.
Because of the controversy more people will go and see this movie, not less. Judging, condemning, making a statement like some did about Harry Potter movies, does the opposite. Not only will the movie be successful, BECAUSE of the opposition to it, but every sequence and every one his books will fly off the shelf.
My grandchildren are looking forward to seeing it, and they have not heard a word against it. They just like the look of the special affects and the fantasy.
Leave the innocence of children alone. Left alone they are very wise. It is the adults who fear, who are the ones to avoid.

I am NOT going to see such a movie. The thought imposed by this mans writings, I find are utterly repulsive, as to the fact, that two children possess the power to kill God. I will be protesting the movie and telling others the negativity, one-mindedness of this movie.

well since some parents came to our church with a spell there child had said from Harry potter and then the child became possessed and they needed our church to get the demon out, and now this mess with the Compass, My kids probably won't go see the movie, I use to be atheist, so I know the evils of that way of thinking. If my kids want to rent the movie when they are 18, so be it, but we won't be going to see it.
