Because a sense of brotherhood and comraderie is no reason to overlook a serious transgression such as murder. You seriously think "taking care of our own" means "covering up the crimes of some low-life that slipped into our ranks"? How juvenile.

They are not "going after" their own. They are dealing with Marines who are accused of murdering innocent people just for the sake of killing them. That's murder. Just because a person wears a uniform and is deployed to a war zone, that is not reason for the person to just kill people willy-nilly. We've had too much of this kind of thing already. It should be remembered that not every Middle Eastern man is a terrorist. As long as our military people get away with cold-blooded murder, the more it will inflame the local populace. We're not exactly winning any prizes in the charm department as our young men and women fight Mr. Bush's unsavory war.
