I did get baptised when I was 18 and at the time it did mean something I felt I was that bit closer to God and that I was showing devotion to Him on high. But I'm no longer in that religion so I don't know what it means now!

I was so-called "baptized" at a Eastern Orthodox Catholic church, by my parents, with water sprinkled on my head as I slept unaware, as a baby.

This action I would now just call "christening", or "baby dedication" ... NOT "baptism" of my own free will.

I was REALLY baptized at a conservation area, at our church picnic, after I was "born again" as a protestant Christian. .

As I understand the bible it is symbolic of the fact Jesus went into a grave and rose from the dead.

It was full immersion, under the water, then back up, symbolic of being born again.

I do not think it has anything to do with salvation. I was ALREADY saved.

This was a symbolic act, like communion, done mostly because He said to do it.

God said it. I believe Him. That settles it for me. God said to "be baptised", so I did

I believe it is a witness to others, and a pledge by me to give up my old life of sin. It is also a memory, that I have decided to die out to the old sinful man, and live life as His ambassador.

Yes, I was about 3 years ago. I had made a lot of mistakes in my past, and getting baptised meant that I was forgiven for all my sins, and it was a chance to start over. And I think it showed everyone my committment to God, and to starting a new way of life.

Yes, and it was the best day of my life, and also the best decision to get baptised. It means I have dedicated my life to God by a public declaration and have to live up to it now.

Water baptism meant nothing ever since a certain pope in the 5th century, iirc, decided that baptism of infants was ok. This practice is carried by by the CoE, Lutherans and others, so infants, children and adults who have no commitment to Christ are now baptised.

One knows a Christian by the way he/she behaves. Real churches have strict membership requirements, and follow the maxim 'Handsome is as handsome does.'

I had to get baptised when I was just born because my mom was raised catholic and if I died, my soul would burn in hell forever. It's a load of crap.

I don't think you should be baptised until you're old enough to choose your own religion. It means nothing to me at all.

I have been baptized 4 times by immersion, full body, into water. All were meaningful.
First when I was 9. It was a right of passage of sorts. I was totally giving my life and heart to Jesus. It was important to me that I was being supported by the church congregation.

The second was in the river Jordan in Israel. Such amazing significance to be so close to where Jesus had walked and been baptized. I was supported and witnessed by a large group of spiritual advanced people. I was being cleansed to begin again.

The third was in the winter cold Pacific ocean during a Jean Houston Workshop on transformation. If we wanted , we removed our clothing and plunged into the cold. It was washing clean and beginning a time of new growth for me.

The last was at a foursquare church in LA and in front of 300 people and in a baptismal about 20 feet up I was immersed, again washing away my sins and rededicating my life to Christ. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and becoming new again. (I was then 70)

All four have been deeply meaningful as I began new phases of personal growth . I believe in the power of rites, celebration and symbolic action that cuts through the mundane day to day of time passing to mark and make a statement of what I want and what I am committing to. And asking for. And for God to see and make note of my surrendering into and making a commitment to Him.

Being baptised is following the example of Christ who was himself baptised by John the Baptist. It symbolises the Death and resurrection of Jesus Christ

No, I will be Baptized, in flowing, troubled snow water, that comes from the high places and empties into the oceans and seas. I will be baptized in a river by full submersion, but only after I know all of the truth, and can repent honestly in my heart, and except as my savior Jesus the Christ.

I can not be Baptized until I know and understand what I must repent from, what I must turn from and learn anew from my Father who arts in heaven, only then will my discipleship (period of learning) be over, and than I will work, I will become a true servant of God.
