So you and this guy are meeting up to have lunch at a casual restaurant. She's only ever seen me wearing scrubs. What would your first impression be if he wore the following:
A) A Hawaiian shirt and white undershirt with khaki pants and old tennis shoes. Clean shaven, splash of cologne.
B) An old t shirt with jogging pants. And a sweatshirt. Not clean shaven. No cologne.
C) A maroon sweater with new blue jeans. He is clean shaven, and wears a splash of cologne.
What is your first impression about A,B and C?

Scrubs are the clothes you wear when you work in a hospital. Doctors wear them, nurses wear them, researchers wear them.

A) A guy who likes to be comfortable and wants to put his company at ease. I would hope he would good natured enough to just be clean rather than splashed with cologne.
B) Sounds like he forgot this was date day and rather than be late, came as he was. I'd offer him some time to "freshen up." If he declined, so would I.
C) Wants to make a good impression, but I'd ask him to hold the cologne next time. There is nothing quite so dashing about a man than the smell of "clean." Cologne is not for everyone and many are allergic to such things. Until he knows for sure, omit the cologne.

Ye gods man, wear whatever is "you."
Seriously, if you go crazy on playing dress-up now, she might be more interested for a while, but eventually the real you is going to shine through, and she's going to be sitting around wondering what happened to her exciting romantic life - be honest about who you are from the start, or you're heading into angsty-juvenile-breakup land.
That said, it doesn't answer your question, which for all I know is purely academic. So:
A. Perfect. Clean but adventurous. Make sure the cologne is something light.
B. Gym apparel is generally pretty tacky unless you're actually working out.
C. Pretty much any guy wearing a sweater is trying too hard. You *might* be one of those rare few who can pull it off... but don't bank on it unless you've tried it before with success.
EDIT: Note that these responses are only valid for lunch. You can get away with a sweater at dinner with no problem.

a) Depends on the Hawaiian shirt - better with a colored tshirt. I'd give you a chance, but I'd be cautious.
b) Depends on the jogging pants - are they just for jogging? How OLD is the tshirt. Mostly likely I would not be impressed - might even walk in and walk out and call from my cell down the street and apologize as I am caught in traffic.
c) I am sure you know the answer to this already.

A) he has no style and prolly drinks too much lol
B) He isnt that into the date or impressing me
C) Nice, but maroon sweater a lil too fruity for me
Jeans a nice t-shirt or a nice sweater with clean shoes would be nice. Depending on the guy would it matter if he was clean shaven or not, some guys look hot all scruffy.

A. Hmmm, has some personality. He might be fun.
B. "Oh, gee, I am so sorry, my mother just called with an emergency, I have to go. Let's reschedule!" Then I give you a phone number I had disconnected years ago.
C. Nice, made an effort. Seems like a good guy so far.

I would be perfectly fine with A or C. Both sound atractive to me. As far as B. goes Cologne isnt neccesary, scruffy can be sexy, but if you look like you havent showered in a week ewww.
Guess I'm pretty easy-going.

A) Dirty shoes = no attention to detail, not for me
B) The just out of bed look only works for hair. Not only are you not getting a second date, you're not even getting a goodbye hug because I'm not sure you've showered.
C)What I expected.

C is the only appropriate option. Dress up, not down for a first date.
