So apparently Scientology is being banned in Germany.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/12/07/germany.scientology.ap/index.html

And here I thought Europe was alright when it came to these sorts of things.....

I'm not entirely up to date with the beliefs of this organization. What horrible things do they do to be considered a threat to the constitution?

Im an ex-scientologist. I think most of what is posted about it here is crap. I spent a couple of years hanging around the scientology centers and did not see or hear any of the "horrible" things I see people post here who have never had contact with them at all.

Most of the scientologists that are on here have been worn down on these boards. It doesnt do much good to answer a question if groups will make sure that some hatred response gets "best score".

Actually Germany is just talking about it. They have done that many times. They already declared Scientology not-a-religion and declared them a business. Under their form of government they can do that. Im not sure that they can ban a business.

Okay...the German officials aren't stating any specifics concerning how Scientology is against the German constitution. But they have been monitoring the Scientologists for quite some time...maybe they have digged something up? I don't know. Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me. Leave the poor scientologists alone, Germany...unless they are trying to usurp the government or something. Sheesh. I'm interested in knowing what the The Domestic Intelligence Agency will be able to dig up. They were assigned the task of gathering information to ban the Church of Scientology.

I've been to the Scientology Church in Sacramento. I went there looking for the truth. At that time I was an agnostic...looking for meaning in life. I decided to try Scientology out after learning about Dianetics. L. Ron Hubbard sure can make stuff exciting, can't he? Anyway..when I was there I had a bad vibe. They kind of gave me the creeps. I don't know exactly why... I just got a strange feeling around them.

It's not being banned in Germany. There are some people in the government talking about it. That heppens there quite a lot but usually does not pass the vote. But it might. They have banned other religions.

Most of europe is pretty cool. They are getting mad at germany because there is an old treay that makes people banned in one nation banned in the others also. It was not meant for religious bannings but germany has banned people for religious resasons which has put the other treaty nations on the spot.

Not to mention that these actions give those people the right to demand asylum in the US for religious persecution.

When the S contacted me one of the first things they did was to ask me to sign on for a personality-improving course. When I asked how much the course was going to cost they called me a 'Suppressive Person' and asked me to leave.

From the members and ex-members I have spoken to they do this sort of thing all the time. They also are known for breaking up families as their 'therapy' causes people to dig up 'buried memories' of abuse by their parents. In most cases the 'buried memory' will be a fabrication.

Their tactics are to make new members feel welcome, get them involved so far in the community that they can't live without being part of it, then either sting them for ****loads of money or put them into slavery in the administrative wing, the Sea Org. Life is different for celebs such as Mr Cruise, who are wooed and treated like royalty in order that they give the church a good rep.

It's not banned in Germany though. Some top people recommended it be banned, that's about it so far.

I'm informed enough to know that joining Scientology could only mean BAD things.

What horrible things do they do? Well, they extort, they brainwash, they separate members from any family and friends that don't fully support Scientology and their methods, they require people to stop taking medication for conditions like autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc, they engage in vicious character assassination and intense harassment campaigns against anyone who criticizes them...

I don't know if you consider that "horrible", but I do.

It's not illegal in Germany yet. Unconstitutional is pretty vague. Don't hold your breath for any bold action. Socialist countries with parlaiments don't do anything fast. And they will argue against themselves just to stay busy (with plenty of cigarette breaks, of course).
PS: Scientology is a billion dollar business hiding behind fake robes of a religion. Their purpose is to get your money with hard sell sales tactics.
