I have a quick question. I drive a 2003 Dodge Stratus. All of the professional repairmen have told me that the transmission fluid pan underneath this automobile needs to be replaced with a new one, but I am not even sure where the pan is. (Please try not to laugh!) I do not like to ask people this question, for I do not want to look stupid. Even if I were to know where it is and what it looks like, how do I go about replacing it with a new pan that does not leak? I would like what the steps in doing so are.

Thank you for your response. Both males and females are welcome to answer my questions.

This vehicle you probably bottomed out and crushed the pan and broke the plastic filter inside, since these pans are steel and are attached with silicone, they do not want to take a chance on removal and can't reinstall it.
By the way it on the drivers side right next to the wheel, you could see it from the front from the bottom

Why does it need to be replaced? Is it demaged from underneath and leaking? If so, go to your dodge dealer or some parts store, purchase a new oil pan for the trans, new transmission pan gasket, oil strainer, and filter. it's not hard to do at all. just lift the car up, unbolt the screws, put something underneath to catch the fluid when it all spills out, once the old fluid is drained, clean it up, put in the new gasket etc, and screw everything back together. then refill your transmission flui with new one and you're done.

No offense meant, but if you cannot find the pan what makes you think you can change it if it needs to be changed? Buy a Haynes manual from your local AutoZone, Advance or other parts store, it has a wealth of information for people that want/like to do their own repairs. I agree with the others though, unless it has been damaged, why does it need to be changed?

it would be cheaper and better on you if you took it to a transmission shop and had them check it unless its damaged there would be no reason to replace it,you can have the gasket replaced instead of replacing the pan,if its damaged then it would probably have to be replaced, other wise i couldn't see any reason for replacing it,good luck with it.
